Camaro Max Tire Sizes???????With 17"s
Hi,
I Was Looking into putting new rims & tires on my camaro, i have i think decided on 17" Rims Similar to the original Iroc Wheels. but for tire sizes thought i would like to try, for the front 255/50R17 & for the rear 285/60R17.. was wondering if that would fit or not?
Okay, now with those tire sizes do you think it would still be possible to lower the car 1.5" front & rear aprox?

Re: Camaro Max Tire Sizes???????With 17"s
you front is 27.1", stock is 25.7. you will probably run into rubbing when turning the wheel. as for the rear, I couldn't find specs on it, but from what i did find that is a very tall tire, about 30", while it may fit, it will fill the whole wheel well and you will probably have to clearance the front of the rear well.
what are you trying to achieve?
lower it with those tires? not a chance, may have to lift the rear

Re: Camaro Max Tire Sizes???????With 17"s
Now looking into different rims.. looking @ 17" Rims With 58mm offset.. just looking through the forum have found out, if i am correct i will need the 2.25" spacer for the front & 2.00" for the rear?
Second question, the tires i have chosen i believe will fit, but not sure.. is 245/50R17 for the front & the Rears 275/50R17??
Third Question, So with the items i have chosen, I was really wanting to lower the car 2" w/eibach springs kit.
Let me know please.. as the snow melts getting more and more excited to pull it out and play with it. this summer want to try rims and tires hopefully next year paint
.. it was painted 1 1/2yrs ago, still got time yet

Re: Camaro Max Tire Sizes???????With 17"s
I don't think the back will fit, I just put 295/50-16's on the back of my car and had to do a little hammering on the inner wheel well to get them to fit without rubbing, those 285/60-17's are 3" bigger and I don't see them fitting without major work.

285/60-17's
That's about big enough for a dump truck. Here's a quick way to put tire sizes in perspective.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Select...8&autoModClar=
These sizes are almost identical in diameter to what you'd put on our cars. In fact, they're EXACTLY what I have on my car, on an OE set of C5 wheels (not some cheeep eBay knock-offs). They fit beautifully. No hammering, no cutting, no nothing; just bolt em up, with 2" spacers, and drive it.

Re: Camaro Max Tire Sizes???????With 17"s
Ya, hes gonna need a lift kit with those! lol.
First off we need to know what the width is of the 17s. If they are replica irocs i think the max is 17x8"?
Ideal would be a 245/45/17 for 17x8s. You could also do a 255/40 but those are like 25.1" tall. I believe a 245/45 is a 25.7" tall tire which is the same height as stock tires for these cars.
Let us know what size 17s you are getting first before you ask for tire sizes.

Re: Camaro Max Tire Sizes???????With 17"s
they are 17 by 8.5 w/58mm offset.
and i was thinking the 245/50R17 & 275/50R17
i currently have 235/60R15
width
235-15 = 9.25"
245-17 = 9.64
275-17 = 10.82
diameter
235-15 = 26.10
245-17 = 26.64
275-17 = 27.84
So not a huge difference in tire sizes
really what i want is to have the tires still look bigger with the wheels and kinda tuck nicely in the wheel wells.. not have large gaps.. these tire sizes i thought of without a lowering the car.. what size can i use if i lower the car i really want the tires to just tuck in really nice.. not large gaps.. if lowered if you know what i mean..
so many people go to larger rims but put tiny tires looks goofy... you know.. dont want that.

Re: Camaro Max Tire Sizes???????With 17"s
Right: all of the "correct" tire sizes for these cars, are in between 26" and 26½" OD.
17x8.5 is not a very good size. OK for the front, but if you can go wider on the back, you should.
Stock Vette (C5) wheels, which are a VERY good match for these cars, are 17x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rear. Those wheels, their stock tire size, and 2" spacers, are a DIRECT BOLT-UP to these cars.
See the Tirerack link for the tire sizes that fit these.
Look at all the other posts asking this same question in various forms that nobody ever seems to look at before asking it yet again, and find any of them where Zepher posted pics of his car, with this wheel & tire combo on it. I also have that, with the exact same results as his (namely, an ideal fit & match).

Not sure if camaros are the same but I am running the tire sizes that Sparkyz listed on my 86' TA, on a 17x7 in the front and a 17x8 in the rear and plan on lowering the car 1" and it looks like I will have good clearance

You cant just say, lets go wider, and since i dont know what the middle number does, we'll just borrow it from the last tire size and hopefully it'll work.
The first number is the "width" of the tire in mm. I dont exactly know where its measured from, but i think its from the middle of the sidewall to the other sidewall. 235, 245, 255, 265, etc...
The last number is the diameter of the wheel. 14", 15", 16", 17" etc...
The middle number is the "ASPECT RATIO". VERY VERY important.
if its 235/60R15. That means the tire is 235 mm WIDE, and the sidewall is 60% of the width.
235 * 0.60 = 141mm
Now add this to the wheel diameter (15") where 1 millimeter = 0.0393700787 inches.
141mm * 0.0393700787 = 5.55" = sidewall (there are two sidewalls you have to add to get the tire diameter.
15" + 5.55 + 5.55 = 26.1"
So the tire is 28.1" tall.
Now because each tire manufacturer is different, this number vaires a little.
SO.... what YOURE saying, is you wanted a 255 FIFTY R17 tire.
Or a 285 SIXTY R17 tire!!!!!!.
First off, 17" is a big honkin wheel, and you add up 60% of 285!!!! you now have a HUGE tire in height.
thats a 30.46" tall tire....... Not to mention, if you want a huge sidewall, people usually go with 15's. But if you go with a larger wheel, you usually want low profile tires.
Just to put things in perspective, you want a tire thats CLOSE in height to your current tire. Use the calculator sofakingdom provided to figure this out, instead of calculating it each time. A 275/40R17 is almost exactly the same height as the stock tire, within .1 of an inch or so. You need the same height if your speedometer is going to read correctly.
Also, heres my car with 285/40/17 on the back, (close to stock height tire).

The tire you mentioned, looks more like this;

I looked at the formula and thought - damn - too much math. but looking around i found this site http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/HeightofTires.htm no math required - it gives the height for each rim size and tire.

Re: Camaro Max Tire Sizes???????With 17"s
Well took all comments into thought ended with a different rim then initially planned on.. the tires i decided to go with was for the front 235/55R17 and i stuffed on the rear 255/55R17. fits great made a trip from winnipeg to edmonton blew the motor on the way home.
cars been hiding in the garage, since august. looking into the LS1 transplant. Re: Camaro Max Tire Sizes???????With 17"s
i have always thought that anything less than 26" in diameter looked like little toy tires, i guess i don't like 3" of wheel gap all the way around,

Re: Camaro Max Tire Sizes???????With 17"s
Well, if you don't like wheel gap, then lower the freaking car, don't stick truck tires on it. Take my car for example- ~25.7" tire, and not much wheel gap at all.
in this picture, I still have the rear isolators in

in this one, I took them out.

Those 285/60R17s are ~30 inch tall tire and has almost 7" of side wall. That, myfriend, would look retard, IMO.
Why do people like going with skinny front tires on these cars when you can match the rear up to a 275? I know it gives the staggered look, and I plan on getting some 315/35R17s, but why run 235 or 245 on the front and have less front end traction and you can't rotate them...??
