Fix-A-Flat canister instead of Spare, good idea?
Fix-A-Flat canister instead of Spare, good idea?
To save weight? Is it good idea to get one of those fixaflat cans and get rid of the spare tire and the jack? I have not had a flat tire in the past 6 years, have you ever had any experience with them?

no, if you want to add one in addition, maybe, but taking the spare out of a driver isa bad idea. Probably have a flat within a week of doing it.
if the blowout is bad enough, fix-a-flat wont do anything.

Like your insurance or airbag, parachute, gun or nuclear weapons. You hope you never have to use them but if they're not there when you need them, you're boned.

My spare is in place, an inflatable (I'd be afraid to use it at this stage), so I carry a can of Fix-a-Flat.

I don't have a spare in my car, but I don't drive the car very far away. I do have a plug kit in the car. You can buy one at the auto part store, it will give you the tools and the plugs to do the repair yourself. Like the people above have said it (will not) help if you have a blow out.

Fix a flat is a chemical that releases gas to fill the tire.
To plug a tire yo have to reem out the hole with a file thingy. If there is fix a flat in the tire and you do this you can cause a spark and when the spark lights the gas in the tire the tire becomes a grenade.
Learned about this in tech and from what I have herd from working 5 years as a line tech it has happened before.

Fix-A-Flat is good for small holes that you normaly can't plug without hammering the reamer in to be able to plug it . The only thing with Fix-A-Flat is alot of people don't use it properly as everyone knows you use it to air the tire up and you drive it to slosh it around in the tire then add air to proper psi but you also have to keep airing the tire down then putting air back in to get rid of the excess fluid in the tire and the gases that are in the Fix-A-Flat which are explosive and flammable .

They haven't used explosive ingredients for years. Fix-a-flat itself has been non-flammable since 1999. Even still, deflate the tire to plug it, or demount it to patch it first and it's not a hazard.

I have not used it in years so it would make sence that they changed it like other stuff has changed for stopping "Global Warming" .
