Iroc 18" Chrome
Guys I need some help, I am looking at putting 18's on my 88 Iroc. I have seen multiple cars with various front and back wheel combinations.
Should I keep one size all around, or stagger? If so, what sizes should I consider. Thank you..

Re: Iroc 18" Chrome
On my new 18" I bought 255/40R18 in front, 295/35R18 in rear! I love the look!

Thank you very much for the response. Your car looks great!! Did you modify or add anything to avoid rubbing on the fenders? What size are your rims, 18 x ??

Re: Iroc 18" Chrome
These cars were meant to have the same size tire in all four corners.
Staggered is the cool style these days but offeres no advantage, in fact there are disadvantages.
1, handling, with out a properly tuned suspension, bigger tires in rear will cause problems.
2. You can't rotate your tires. Not a big deal to some, but on a daily driver it is, imo.
SLP put 275's on the fronts 20 years ago, thats plenty of tire for most 3rd gens.
245 was stock IROC width.
If it were me, on a stock car, I would run 8" with 245/40 all around.
If it was modded, 9" with 275/35 all around.
But, IROC's only come in 8 last I checked.

There is no advantage of running a 245-40-18 tire vs. a 245-50-16 sized one, other than tire availability. There is no advantage in tread width, it will certainly weigh more, and the sidewall will be too small (and thereby effectively increase spring rate). That said, a 275 width tire on all 4 corners on a 9.5" or 10" wheel is optimal - modified or not.
As you mentioned, 18" IROCs are not available in anything other than 8", too narrow for anything other than a 245 tire. Meant for looks, not performance, honestly.
Psychoz28 - what width wheels are you running those tires on?

Re: Iroc 18" Chrome
I agree, there is no advantage to the 18" wheel, but the op wants them, for looks I'd say, which is why I suggested said tires.
Believe me, I wish I never bought staggered 18's for my car, but I got them now, so that's what's going on it, til I find some good 88-90 iroc wheels.

Re: Iroc 18" Chrome
Just realize that you want Iroc Replica... If they only made 18/8 you will need something like 245/40R18 ... Or something like that ...
