Please do not go wider than a 245 on a stock 8" wheel - a 255 needs a 8.5" or 9" wheel (optimal) to work right.

Re: Which size?

I've had bot sizes on my car. Both sizes worked ok. I prefer the stock 245 size because they fit the wheel well better. From a performance characteristic, I really can't say because when I changed sizes I also changed tire brand, and I attribute that and the age of the older tires to the different feel more so than the size. When the 255s were newer, I don't recall feeling any significant differences in handling compared to the new 245s.

Re: Which size?

i have 245's on the front, which are brand new, i'm not getting rid of those. they get awfully close to rubbing as it is so i dont want to change them up. I have to replace my 2 rear tires and i was thinking the 255's

What wheels do you have where a 245 is almost rubbing?

I have a 275 in front with no problems and others have as wide as 295 without any mods.

Re: Which size?

The difference in size is significant enough that it will be visibly apparent. If you like that "I've got air shocks and a big fat pair of Futura Supersport tires" look, then go for it. If you want to keep that balanced look, I'd stick with the 245s. Keeping the 245s will also allow you to rotate the tires down the road for longer tread life too.

I'm using the original GTA rims and the fronts are Yokohoma Avid V4 245/50r16, but they appear discontinued.

Ok thanks, and i have rear drum brakes so the offset on the rims are different, I can't rotate the tires on the rims if i wanted to. Only way to rotate the tires is to take all 4 tires off the rim, and rotate the tires themselves onto different rims.
