295/60r15 cooper cobras on stock rims?
I'm looking into a new set of cooper cobras all around my car. Iv got the original stock Aluminum 5 spoke Camaro wheels off an 88 sport coupe. Can I run 295s safely on the rear wheels?

Re: 295/60r15 cooper cobras on stock rims?
My back wheels are 15x8's and 275/60s are all that I can fit on them without rubbing or bulging out the sides. I don't think you can wrap 295/60's around a 15x7 safely.
To run 295's you probably want something like a 15x10 back wheel, with proper backspacing. Maybe even air shocks, I don't know.

295 is a wide tire, a full 80mm wider (3.2") than the stock 215-65-15 tires that came on those wheels from GM. The tires are too wide for the wheels.
You would need to move to a 10" wide wheel, which can fit with the right BS.
Also keep in mind that a 295-60-15 tire is 29" tall - a full 3" taller than stock...

295/50/15 is right around 26.8 depending on brand
Coopers are the narrowest/shortest pretty sure anyway of the 295/50 sizes. Getting them on an 8" wheel is pushing it. Sidewall will roll a lot so you wont get full contact patch unless you go to a wider wheel. Underinflation+rolled sidewall not good news
Had looked into them just for some cheap street tires to burn up not so sure if runing them on an 8 is so smart

So what's the widest I could go for the rear? I'm just looking for a bigger tire look. Iv got the 215/75/r15s now and hate how skinny they are but I love the wheels.

Are they 15x7 or? Im not hip to the wheel size differences of these cars. an 8 " rim is barely wide enough, 7 no. 255 tops

If you want a decent size for a street tire/primarily street car than this is what I recommend.
If you do get the Cooper Cobras than you have the choice of black or white letters out. Black out IMO looks much cleaner on a Third Gen.

Decided to go 235/60r15 cooper cobras. Almost went 215/65r15s on the front and the 235s on the back but was unaware of the look. Paid about $416

Please post some pics once they are installed. I'd like to see how it looks. I'm in the process of figuring what wheel/tire routes I want to go with my Firebird. I know I'm keeping with 15" wheels.

Have they been mounted to the wheel yet? If so they are most likely not returnable so do not mount them yet if not.
I have seen them once on a 15x8 with 3 3/4 back spacing wheel. They did not rub but that's a miracle because the tread was 3/4 out past the flair and the bulge was 1 1/4 out past at its widest point. Your 8in 4.50 bs will tuck the tread in 3/4in. more.
That would put the tread right on the edge of the flare not inside it.
A 295/50R15 tire should be mounted on at least a 10in. wheel. The one I saw was ballooning pretty bad.
