Best used wheel swap

I've been looking at used wheels, such as c4 wheels and cheaper new ones. Ideally I want a cheap used set that will get me more rubber on the road. Has anybody had any personal experience using c4 wheels? Any rubbing? Or any recommendations? Is using wheels spacers with some c5 wheels dangerous? I've heard to stay away from using spacers, dunno if it's a real danger or not tho. Thanks!!

Spacers will be necessary for any '84-up 'vette wheels. Avoid cast aluminum spacers, but billet aluminum is fine. There are a couple of companies offering new copies of 'vette wheels, all from China, but fine for daily driving. These still require spacers, which adds cost. The cheapest option is steel 17x9s with 5 inch backspacing, 5 lug on 4.75 inch bolt circle. You can get a new set delivered for $ 370. Then you can run 275/40R17s and no spacers. Before I got my promotion, I was seriously considering Chinese wheels in 18 x 10.5 inch for $83 each, plus shipping from California, with Chinese 275/35 tires for $105 each, delivered. There are threads here by people who are running this size of wheels, front and rear, with no rubbing, and not sticking out. But you have to get the spacers exactly the right thickness.

You are concerning me with the gravitation towards cheap (not talking inexpensive, but low price due to inferior quality) wheels and tires for a high performance application. The wheels might be an issue, but maybe not. But the tires are going to be low traction, high mileage, inferior designs that may be prone to failure or have less grip than cheap all seasons.

Skip on the wheels if you must, do not buy the cheapest tires possible.

As far as cheap tires, I was gonna go with hankook v12's ( if they make my size). I read they are a good tire for a relatively low cost, decent performace. I'm not gonna try and break any land speed records with them

You never hear too many complaints about having too good of a tire on a car, but the bitching never ends about bad performing ones.

Hankook makes decent tires, but (if they are available in your size), but you have a few killer choices at a similar price point (in order of grip):

1) Dunlop Direzza 101 (or the new replacement) - killer dry and wet

2) BFG G-Force Sports - run slightly wider than spec, tread is the widest for any given size from what we have found, super grippy

3) Continental extreme contact DW - great ride, very grippy, weigh less than other tire the same size, tread is narrower than others

All are within $10 of the tire you mentioned on DTD.com in the 275-35-18 size.

Re: Best used wheel swap

I've heard good things about the g-force, my buddy had a civic Si with those (had around 250 hp) and the first time he went to dump the clutch they caught well enough he stalled it. Haha, glad you mentioned that, I assumed they would've been much higher. Once again, the old colloquialism for assuming comes true. Except you were right, I would've just looked like an *** lol.
