17x8 wheels on bmr lowering springs

Well I'm about ready to pull the trigger on new wheels, I'm looking at 17x8 weld venturas with a 0 offset and a 4.5in backspace with 245/40R/17's all around (BFG G-Force Comp 2) I also already have 1.5 in (rear) and 1.25 in (front) BMR lowering springs, I really don't want to be disappointed if i order them wait a month and them to not fit / rub and I absolutely do not want to roll the fenders or cut anything just want a "plug and play" type thing but with wheels wondering if anyone has a similar set up and could send pics or if anyone knows if this will fit 110% no rubbing or hitting that would be great.

Thanks, Gino

Long ago I ran 2" drop springs, 255/45-17 front 275/40-17 rear and had no issues with rubbing. Now I'm with umi springs in the front that claim 1.5" and cargo coils in the back and it sits great. 235/45 in the front now because that's what was available.

2" all around with ROH Snyper 17x8 front 17x9 rear. I think I have a profile picture, I'll have to look when I get home.

Ok thanks so 17x8 all around should work fine with a 1.5 in drop in the rear and 1.25 in drop in the front?

Yes. an 8" wide wheel came on some of these cars so you really only need to worry about tire height. Anything around 26" tall tire and lowering is fine.

With a zero offset, "we" typically see guys running 275/40/17 or sometimes even a smidge wider without issues. A 245 will be no problem. Now.....a 245/45 would be PERFECT factory height. 245/40 will actually be a bit short. Even MORE clearance, though it might almost look TOO small. I'm actually considering a staggered 275/40/17 out back with a 245/45/17 in front. Same 25.75 "ish" diameter.

Not talking down to anyone, but just in case you didn't know, the section width isn't a hard measurement it's a percentage. So 40% of 275mm is 25.7" diameter. 45% of 245mm is also 25.7" diameter. That's why a 275/40 and 245/45 are both the same 25.7" diameter, which is pretty much factory thirdgen diameter.

Re: 17x8 wheels on bmr lowering springs

Hi, so talked to my dad after I got home from school and he said that some of the guys at his work said that the offsets are different for the stock front and rear I think its +8 in the front and 0 in the rear, so he said that some of the guys at works said that the square setup of 17x8 +0mm may mess up the front if I don't have a brake kit or something to fix that, anyway did you just put them on the car and start driving or did you have to do break kits, spacers, or something like that, just worried cause I would be droping almost all the money I have so I probably wont have any money for the break kits.

Some of the higher trim cars like IROC and I "think" GTA's and WS6 cars (not a Pontiac guy) had a 0mm offset in front and a +16mm offset in rear. Lot of discussion as to why. REGARDLESS, many thirdgens have 0mm on all four corners, and you will have NO issue running 0mm on all four corners. I've run 0mm on all four, as have countless others. Believe it or not, a lot of guys will find an extra set of 0mm fronts, and run them on the rears. Very common. Makes 'em stick out about an extra half inch (16mm), and it's a cool look. Go check out Hawk's Motorsports and look at their replica 17" IROC, Z28, GTA wheels, etc. etc. They're ALL identical 0mm offset wheels.

Re: 17x8 wheels on bmr lowering springs

Just for perspective. MANY of us have used a 275/40/17 wheel and tire combo with a 0mm offset on lowered vehicles with no issues. SOME folks with stock brakes up front have some minimal rubbing due to our hub/rotor being one piece. The aftermarket brakes use a separate rotor which bumps the wheel out about .25" , but keep in mind that you can drive it like that, OR you can use a small .25" spacer. STILL, that's with a 275/40/17. You're only looking at a 245mm so you'll have no issue.

Re: 17x8 wheels on bmr lowering springs

16x8 with zero offset is a front factory size that can be used on both, front and rear.

25.7" and 26" are factory heights/diameters. On 16x8, 245/50-16 was the factory size.

Given those parameters, 17x8 wheels with 245/45-17 tires will fit just like factory wheels and tires.

And lowering the car by that small amount won't be much different than the ride height on worn out 40 year old factory springs.

Simply put, no modifications of anykind will be necessary.
