TBI vs LS1 SS

I was out for about an hour tonight just cruising around and got next to mostly imports and such all night. Smoked everything like tricked out Jettas, Accords and Civics..you guys know what I'm talking about...fart tips, rims and stickers. None of them would even hang for 15 yards...yawn. Then I came to a red light and saw something coming from behind me in the lane next to me. I'm pretty good at identifying cars at night from lights and stance and such, and it turned out to be exactly what I thought it was, a light green LS1 SS. So then I thought to myself, "this is going to be interesting". Anyway, light turns green and off we go. I was quite pleased when he couldn't pull on me. We went to about 80mph and had gone back on forth on each other no more then about 2-3 feet at a time but was mainly door to door the whole time. I'm not trying to post any bull here cause I know that alot of people here don't believe in TBI making power, so I will state the only advantage that I had. I was by myself, and there was either at least 3 people in the SS, coudln't tell if there was a 4th or not so I'm sure that if he would have have pulled on me a little if he was alone, but i'm sure not by much. But then again. I haven't really done any tuning what so ever since the motor swap. So when I get it dialed in properly, for example, I'm still running the first chip that was burned for me so when I finally get a Prom burner, I plan to at least hang with stock LS1's.

Later,

Tom

Well I couldn't tell the color of it till it got kinda close to me. The interestion was very well lit so I saw what color it was in my mirror when it got kinda close to me.

No bigblock, just a big block TBI unit.

Nice race. Someone must have done a damn good job on the first try with that chip.

I still haven't gotten the TC to lock up yet, but I haven't ruled out enough things to pin that one on ya yet

yeah, I don't know why everyone rags on TBI. IMO it's better than carbs because you get better part throttle driving. Probably because that manifold and TB were so restrictive stock.

TBI I'm sold!

I was runnin' a Holley 390 four barrel (on a 250L6 mated to a TH2004R). Hated it everyday man. It made the power and the noise was awesome and 253 ponies at the rear wheels. However, it wasn't good at starting up even with the electric choke properly adjusted, On a tight right turn, couldn't give it gas or it would backfire or stummble or from a dead stop it would sometimes backfire when I gave it too much juice and so on and so on..... Well HOMETOWNS....I went with a TBI kit GM 87'-91',305-454cid two barrel from Howell and I'm satisfied all day bra's....The crusing round town is fukin sweet turns and all and it feels like it has more torque. Not sure if the ponie numbers will be the same (does feel MUCH stronger, though), but I don't care, the crusing is too awesome man. Endless smiles I tell ya.....Late. CHEVYTOWN

I almost went to a carb then i thought about the hassle and figured it wouldnt be worth it so i just went and bought a edelbrock intake. Plan on swapping cams soon. then we will see how she runs for a lightly modded lo3.

Oh sure, go tell that one to the carb guy who just blew your doors off. He might stop laughing some time next week.

Because it's all bench racing and no proof on this board. I see TBI cars at the track running 13's (dont know what size SBC they're running, I've only talked to a few of these guys). I've seen one really cool T/A 350 TBI run 12's at the local track. I have actually seen one 305 TBI (the guy said it was a 305) run 13.4 No nitrous. I talked to this guy and he didnt tell me much about his setup, but he had AFR 190 heads and a Weiand intake for sure.

Which year was it when Chevy came out with the light green paint scheme for the SS? You sure it wasn't a V6 with an aftermarket SS hood?

Good call I guess. I searched all of the production numbers for the 98-02 SS's and couldn't find colors that I thought I saw. I know for sure that it wasn't a dressed up wanna be SS because I watched him pull out a move in a merge lane that a V6 could never pull off. Plus it had the hood, wheels and spoiler to go with it. Maybe it really wasn't the color that I thought I saw cause it was about mightnight and I only glanced at it cause I didn't want to miss the jump at the light.

Hey, that's not in an F-bod is it? Please excuse my ignorance if it is. Did Chevy (or any aftermarket) ever make an old straight 6 head that actually flowed well? I'm obsessed with the straight 6 turbo F-bod. It's not looking good though. No donor engines. I'm just going to have to do the TT SBC. It's getting old now, everyone's doing it.

I am that guy. I'd just like to know the diff between a 4 bbl TBI on top of a performer RPM manifold and my 750 dp.
