Cola Cranks on Ebay?

Saw this link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33616

From the Cola website I talked to a guy that quoted me a price of $850.00 I am suspicious of the ebay lister, but nevertheless very tempted as this is similar in price to the Eagle crank I was going to purchase.

Anyone ever bought one of these? What should I be on the lookout for?

Thanks,
Jason

Too bad they are only selling one piece cranks. I need a two piece. I saw the Cola add before, and NO one is biting. That seems pretty weird. They should be all over this.

So the seller should buy stuff on ebay first so that they can convince people that they are worth buying from?

What about the people that list stuff in the classifieds. The only way there is feedback is if someone voluntarily does it, as there is no encouragement to givie it.

I think I agree with you when the person is selling old stuff or is a reseller, but if they are the manufacturer and it can be verified that the maker and seller are one in the same there has to be a different perspective IMO.

I hope someone does buy and give good feedback. The unit is $250 off the price listed one their own website. A good experience may encourage them to put more products out there.

I called Cola and they verified that they are selling some cranks on ebay. Apparently though the link to the guy in the first post is a reseller.
They said the cranks they have listed on ebay themselves are normally $850-950 cranks. They are simply overstock that they're trying to get rid of to get more space. They are not blemished. They have not been cut down or anything!
They said that if I was willing to pay the buy it now price of $490, I could buy it direct.
So I bought a 3.80" stroke one. I couldn't pass up a deal like that. RJ at Cola said he's been selling them like hotcakes direct.
I was gonna get a 3.875 one but I would have had to buy custom pistons because neither JE or Mahle stocked one that put me under 11.5:1.
I know they were listing their one-piece seal cranks, but you may call them and see if they're liquidating any of thier 2 pc seal ones.

It's the standard series. Good enough for what I paid and overkill for the power I'm gonna be making.
I bought one of the last 4 left of the 3.80" ones. I'd say they're gone by now. Some of the listed strokes were already sold out.

Jason, It'll be way down the road before I assemble the motor or even have my block machining done, so all I can do is give a visual inspection.

That is all I would be looking for. I suppose you can't really tell if the guy is on the up and up unless something bad happens.

From reading the website and checking out Mondello's website I got the sense that the current owners are not the original owners. It also seems that the only selling point the guy has is that it is American made, and because of that he feels he deserves a premium. I am not opposed to a guy making profit, but he on the phone and on the site just felt suspicious, as I may not be getting something THAT special.

His crankshaft weights weren't much different, and the hardness numbers were similar as well. Hopefully it works out.

I am wishing you the best.
