Wonderbar problem

Just letting everyone know: The TDS Wonderbar will not fit if you installed a Spohn Front Sway Bar.

Re: Wonderbar problem

The shop TT Performance in NJ is replacing most of the front suspension on my 89 Formula, and when they went to install the sway bar and wonderbar they found the two pieces interfere...I assume the mounting flange of the wonderbar hits the sway bar. The TDS piece is very good, but looks like I will be selling a wonderbar soon.

Re: Wonderbar problem

IMO the problem is with the Spohn sway bar, not my brace. Here's my rationality for the statement. Spohn's sway bar also interferes with a stock GM Wonderbar. Wouldn't it make sense for a manufacturer to make their product so it will work with a part that may already be installed on your car?

My brace is designed to fit the same location as a GM wonderbar. There is a simple correction. You just need to add a spacer between the wonderbar and the sway bar mounting bracket. In fact at one time I sold many such spacers to people that bought a Spohn sway bars so they could install it with either a GM wonderbar or my version. Unfortunately I only made one batch of the spacers and haven't had time to tool up to make more. You could also use large fender washers in lieu of a manufactured spacer. I'm attaching a picture of the spacer I used to sell so you'll get an idea of what type of spacer you'd need to fabricate.

Re: Wonderbar problem

Just to let people, I went which the Spohn unit to avoid clearance issues. So I have a basically brand new TDS wonderbar, which looks like a very solid piece. The parts was just test fitted onto my car, nothing more. If anyone is interested in buying this piece, let me know. Local sale preferable (I live in NJ).

Re: Wonderbar problem

make it fit! it will be worth it...even if u dont feel it in handling(hard not too) your frame and steering box will thank you later. if u plan to drive it hard.like Lon said just use big washers ... or make sure they are installing it correct. see if the shop can machine something up if theres a machine shop they use.

How is that shop doing? I used to play online video games with the owner back in the mid 90's, when he was toying with the idea of opening a shop, he hadn't much of a clue about anything at the time but knew how to pay others that did.. I saw they have a website up and such and he has some mechanics and such.. What do you think of the place?

Re: Wonderbar problem

The shop is great. They have a pretty large place and opened a part to build race car chassis. The owner Matt said he hired people who knew what they were doing and then learned everything as they went along. I can't believe he went from software testing to performance shop, pretty bold move. But the shop was great, the guys are relaxed, they really helped me out.
