Re: Powermaster Alternators
My powermaster had about 3000 miles on it and it died. I purchased a new one, hopefully it lasts longer.

Re: Powermaster Alternators
I didn't find any performance gain from the 140 amp chrome model I bought. It was just a very expensive piece of eye candy. It got way too hot. More so over the stock 105 amp Delco unit which pretty much performed equal if not better. And I did replace the battery cables and other grounds prior to the Powermaster installation. So the Powermaster is just an expensive chrome paper weight that only lasted two or so thousand miles on my car.

Re: Powermaster Alternators
I actually work for Powermaster, and certainly 3 alternators in really nowhere near where you should be. The big issues we see are improper grounds and slipping belts. Not to say that's what you have going on, but it seriously covers about 80% of damaged alternators we see come in for repair. When it comes to grounds make sure that the alternator itself is grounded well, so if the brackets are painted or powdercoated, the alternator isn't grounding and it'll work 3-4 times harder than it needs to. Also, as a belt tensioner starts to show it's age a serpentine belt can slip quite a bit, and then with our smaller than stock pulleys, it just amplifies the issue. Also, a steel pulley won't scream at you the way an aluminum pulley will.
Just a couple of common things we see there. Please let us know if there's anything we can do to help though. We're a made in U.S.A. company and we've been building alternators and starters since 1981. E-mail me at bbasner@powermasterperformance.com or call my cell at 630-849-7754.

Re: Powermaster Alternators
I've had good luck with powermaster alternators. I've had several of them over the years. When I did the LS swap the alternator I bought from another vendor was supposed to be one wire but wasn't. Powermaster converted the alternator to one wire for the cost of parts and shipping even though they didn't manufacture it.

Re: Powermaster Alternators
I work for a speed shop that is a Powermaster dealer and we have very few returns on their alternators or starters. Our local armature shop told me that the few he gets in from people simply need a new regulator ($10 piece). When I went from my stock 60amp to a Powermaster 100amp, I instantly could tell a difference in the way my cars electronics worked. I know I was over working the stock one but was really surprised how much of a difference it made. I sell these products every day and recommend them over other brands we carry guilt free.
