Re: new sub box for vert

that is not a sub woofer box? That is you putting the top down on your convertible and showing the engine...?

That video is your sub woofer box by the way, looked around.

It is a nice box, you should carpet it instead of paint, makes it have a clean look.

Re: new sub box for vert

Standard camaro well, regular camaro box works, just don't expect mind blowing bass in the car with the top down doing 70

Re: new sub box for vert

Topj, I make an enclosure for vert's. They look nice too. Here is a link.

http://camarosubwooferbox.com/

Irocwagon is right. A regular sized hardtop enclosure will work. You will just have limited trunk space. Also, surprisingly, my subwoofer sounds just as good with my TTOPS off and windows down. Not sure about 70mph, but around town, it sounds pretty good.

Re: new sub box for vert

T-tops off vs top down are different though. Even with T-tops off, the subs are still in the "interior compartment" of the car with the driver whereas with a convertible, the subs are in the trunk, seperated from the driver so more sound will be lost with the top down.
Regardless, I like your convertible box design. Will have to keep it in mind if I ever decide to put a sub in.

Yep his enclosures look very good....I worked at Rogers stereo and got use to building them, but we charged a lot,but I normally built them for my car and just ending up selling them....

Here is another way to build your box without losing valuable trunk space and bass when the top is down.

Re: new sub box for vert

I installed one sundown audio DVC 8 inch V2 subwoofer and to a ported box that I built in the trunk of my convertible and here's what I find to be a problem..

the sound all stays inside the trunk and you lose a lot of the clarity because the subwoofer is firing just inside of the trunk

I have discussed this issue with my nephew who has build some really wild and crazy systems in the past and he thinks that if we build a fourth-order sub box that fires directly through the opening that goes into the convertible area we will force all the sound forward and have amazing sound

I will keep you posted when I get a chance

Re: new sub box for vert

It's not going to work when the top is down. That is why the sub box either needs to be where the rear seats are or in the passenger foot well on how I did my car. In addition to the amazing sound, you are also centering the weight of the speaker system within the car for better performance instead of dead weight on the rear wheels.

I am using JL audio shallow mount 10' woofer with a decent sized box. You actually don't lose that much space since the majority of the box sits in deep of the foot well.

It sounds good if you build it a proper box.The bass is nice and tight, and I can push it really hard without it really distorting. I suppose it all depends on what you are looking for the system to do. The system was built with high end audiophile Morel speakers front and back. I have a 5channel Punch amp pushing about 1100 watts to the system with no distortion. It simply sounds amazing.

Re: new sub box for vert

My one sundown audio 8 inch sub can easily double the output of that one shallow mount JL subwoofer

what I have now is pretty damn loud and you can feel it... but you lose a lot of the tones because of the box being in the trunk firing up words

trust me my nephew can make boxes make the speaker sound 60 percent louder than the speaker could in a typical boxe

no offense but that JL sitting on the floor board looks kinda odd.. and takes away from the cleanliness of your car
