Carb Spacer with Holley S/A and PerfRPM intake
I was thinking of getting the TD performance Mixture step Spacer for more horsepower in the high RPMs and better fuel efficiency.
I am ordering a Street avenger 670 CFM and a carb spacer tomorrow from jegs (plus some gauges, a tach, and a steering wheel). Let me know what you think. If you know of better spacers of one inch let me know. I was reading the Super Chevy articles on carb spacers, but i don't want to pay 99 dollars for one (the super sucker).

Did you order the carb yet? Hope not.
I'm no experienced spacer user, but from what I understand, they will do one of two things for you:
4-hole spacer: increase the vacuum signal for better idle and low-end response.
Open spacer: provide a plenum to "fool" the engine into thinking it has a bigger carb.
Which reason do you think you need a spacer?
If you're willing to shell out the bucks for a 670 Street Avenger ($359.95), why not get a 625 cfm Road Demon ($299.50) or 650 cfm Speed Demon ($399.00) instead? Don't tell me it's because of the extra flow, because you won't be able to tell the difference, and either Demon will most likely make as much or more power, anyway. And drive better, too.

yeah I ordered it
I had another thread of people who have street avengers and they said that they were awesome. i got a carb spacer with 4 holes, one incher. I got a decently modded 350 and just want a little extra.
Well, thanks for the info. If I have problems with this holley I'll consider a demon...but not probable.
Take Care and thanks for the reply.

I've heard the newer design Holleys are a pain to tune.Anyone else hear this? I put a new Carter #9635,625 CFM on my 350 in my 79Z and have never been happier with a carb. Easy to tune,no float bowls to remove etc.Runs like a top and starts in about two turns of the starter all of the time.Check out a Carter.I think the Edelbrock is the same carb.My nephew has one on his 350 Chevy in a 4X4 and it's great too.

I've got my S/A tuned just about right, it's a bit rich on the secondaries though, just haven't gotten around to changing the jets... Very easy to tune and work on, got my car to where you just bump the starter and it fires right off. They're a good carb but I'm going to get a speed demon 850 cfm for the big block Demon carbs have a bit better casting for smoother airflow.

The street avenger is a great carb if you know how to tune it. I slapped one on my 355 and dinoed it and two cylenders ran so hot that we had to stop the cam break in and change jets. If I would have slapped it on and went i pobalbey would have burnt up the motor really quick

jetting
Did you use a 670 S/A? If you did, what jetting did you use. I am getting a lean pop and the temp was kinda high for the season.
I think the lean pop may be because of the spark plugs also.
Thanks

yeah, that's a lot of advance
I am thinking that is my problem. The guys who did the work said it was OK since I had the whole MSD ignition, but I told them to back off the advance and see what happend. A buddy of mine changed spark plugs and he didn't have the problem anymore. I am thinking it is the timing.
What does everyone else think?
P.S. I was there when the timing light said 58.

Just curious cuz i would love to have a performer RPM intake and and holley carb as well , but does all this fit under the stock hood including the 1 inch spacer?
I currently run a performer intake with the edelbrock 600cfm carb with open element drop base and its a tight fit and heard that the RPM intakes will not fit, any clarification would be great thanks.

performer and spacer
I had a performer and 1 inch spacer under my stock hood. It worked with a drop base air cleaner. Just make sure your element is tall enough to clear the choke tower...otherwise you won't be able to put the lid on. That's what happened to me. thus i can't run my spacer anymore unless I shell out 35 bills for a new air cleaner.
Hell I can fit a spacer on the high rise single plane with my drop base, but the element isn't tall enough.

spacer stats
Ok TDY performance sells 2 different spacers:
Mixture step: More high end power and ful economy
Mixture channels: More low end torque
Basically, they increase air/fuel atomixation and make the engine think that there is a bigger carb on it. Expect from 6-8 HP on a carb spacer. Average is about 5 HP.
Also, it acts as a little heat shield so the carb absorbs less heat from the intake (wooden ones are the best). I have seen people run a one ince alum spacer, and an alum spacer underneath. The wood ones act like a thick gasket/heat shield.
I have two spacers if anyone wants one or both. I have the TDY mixture step, and an edelbrock spacer. Both worked well on my holley SA. I had to ditch it for clearance problems since I am not using a drop base. I will sell them for 10 bucks a piece. All you need are the longer carb bolts.
