neat that they went multiport.... for a second, that video looked like it was going to imply TBI.
also, doesn't a further location away from the intake valve help at higher RPMs? i remember seeing a couple N/A indy/F1/etc engines and those were actually firing the injectors above the individual throttle plates.

I believe the immediate observation was the idle has improved.
I hear they are experiencing some quirks with ECU(?) as it relates to a circuit breaker tripping when they turn off ign and the after coasting turn ign back on. I giuess trying to save fuel? But if it has DFCO why do that?

I wouldnt think they could but I feel that its gonna be a mess for some race teams as for EFI. Im sure they is many many guidlines on there tune.
I agree with EFI but in nascar there is so many guidlines that it may be a mess sifting out what can be done and what is done.

They were using DFCO last season (2012). It was obvious by the lack of flames out the exhaust on a lift.
Even better was the announcer trying to get "deceleration fuel cut off" out of his mouth. It was alien to him.
The reason it has taken so long to get EFI into NASCAR is cheating. So much can be done in that brain box that could be against the rules. And how does it get checked...

They have the McLaren ECU well protected from any unauthorized changes.
It's not a *****-out injection system like a drag car or LSR rig would use, it has to be NASCAR simple, no upstream injectors for the top end. The wild EFI's inject at multiple points...like a blown nitro engine.

Right, then can do data and make changes to ECU before race. Not during.
I think the level playing field and no cheats is they all have the same ECU so I assume same OS. Can only tune what is there and no advantges or disadvantages to anyone.
Since they are locked with their tune before a race and checked after a race I don't think any code changes would go un-noticed, calibration changes to tune are allowed and up to team to tune.
Data collected and shared after the race is engine specific and does not show data or driving like times when a driver lifts and brakes for turnes etc... just data, no ECU maps.

This is interesting, being that I grew up with Nascar. I thought they already were EFI though? I recall last year hearing about teams having fuel shortage issues because of the swap to EFI.
I agree with the above though, it hasn't happened sooner because of the strict rules and guidelines. They have templates and restrictions for EVERYTHING. I'm sure you guys are familiar with the penalties handed out over the years for teams trying to be creative in different areas, and are fined for being outside the guidelines, even if ever so slightly.

The Holley system they use is pretty close to what you can buy from Jegs. I'd bet McLaren got big $$$$$ for the programming. At Daytona testing there were about 7 guys at a long table with laptops each looking at the numbers for ONE car.
