Help on my BERLINETTA

My 1984 Berlinetta's Speedometer and tach has pooped out while driving. Fuses are ok. and now I am at a stand still the Haynes manual does not show the wiring to these two gauges. Let me know before I get a can of gas and a match.
P.S. for those of you who like this cluster, it is nice, WHEN IT WORKS!!!

Dash Gash

If they failed simultaneously check for a break in the printed circuit board supplying power behind the dash.

The instrument cluster in the Berlinetta is COMPLEX. Contact this guy. He can help. http://www.berlinetta.info/
If your dash has died he can possibly repair it or sell you one that has been repaired.

If your AC/Wiper Control pod has buttons that have to be pushed hard or wiggled to make them work I can restore it. Contact me @ gmjunkyard@live.com

Re: Help on my BERLINETTA

ok so I bought another cluster today for my berlinetta and it still isn't giving me a speed or tach. I took the black cover off and the new cluster has the burnt marks in the same corners. Do these marks mean the LCD is burnt out or is this a regular thing. I need help please somebody!!!!!!!

I believe those are the marks left behind when the display was manufactured. The air inside the glass enclosure is vacuumed out and replaced with an inert gas like argon. Those are the marks left behind when it was sealed. I might be wrong but all my experience tells me that is what it is. I don't have a cluster open right now so I cannot verify this. I still believe your problem is outside the cluster.

so much. That helps a ton. Now do you have any idea which wire in the harness supplies the power to the speedo and tach. I figured they come out of the ECM but the Chilton Manual that I bought says nothing about the cluster for the berly.

Re: Help on my BERLINETTA

Signal should be sent over by the yellow box, it's called the speedo buffer, it splits the signal among the ECU, guage cluster, cruise control, ect. That shouldn't kill the tach though.

Re: Help on my BERLINETTA

Yep, that would be my guess. It's a small yellow box behind the cluster up high in the corner. Consult with John in RI. He's the guru for Berlinetta's.

Re: Help on my BERLINETTA

wow, i was right. Suprised, i don't see why that has anything to do with the tach. I could understand the speedo. Well i'm glad that got you back up and running. I wish you luck with your berlinetta, they are neat cars.

Re: Help on my BERLINETTA

Dude who knows. It's a berlinetta. You hit the dash just right and that rough idle will go away. I probably hit another wire while I was down there. Who cares it works right. lol I spoke to John in RI and he said that when one goes they both go so maybe the speedo shorted out and the tach went with it. oh well Thanks a ton guys and I hope this will help another Berly owner in the Future. Also I have a friend that makes closeout panels that go under the hood and he is in the mist of making one for the third gen. Here is his URL http://www.undercoverinnovations.com
