350/330 Will it work
Now I finally got my funds together and I am ready to turn this dream project into a reality. I decided to go with the 350/330 crate motor and top it off with the TPI / Vortec base plate. All of this will go into my 87 GTA. I have been reading older posts and there are quite a few guys that are biased to the Tpi/Vortec bp. Before I place my order I just want to know if this setup will work and if there are any others out there with the same setup, and how does it perform? Also I know I am not in the correct thread to ask this but where can I get a GOOD 700R4 or should I go with a new one? Any input will be appricated.

Define "work".
Do you have emissions inspection/testing to worry about? That will determine how much "work" it takes to make it "work". Since the Vortec heads don't have the exhaust cross-over passage, you'll have to plumb exhaust up to the base to get the EGR valve to work, for instance. Chip burning will also most likely be required.
Otherwise, recent issue of Chevy High Performance magazine had an article on the setup. It runs, but doesn't make as much power as the carbed setup, and aftermarket runners (really needed to get any kind of power) had to be modifed to fit.

Emissions are not tested here. So are you recommending a carb set-up to get the true power? If so which carb you recommending? Also I was wanting to get a ram air hood and was wondering if I could have a functional ram air set up with a carb? What are your thoughts, opinions on the 350/330 and if you were doing this project for you, which route would you take ?

One other thing, this will be a daily driver and on occasions taken to the track for releasing built up road rage.

I'll pass on any further opinions, because those who know me know my opinion of the Vortec heads. I don't want to open myself up to any further claims of bias.

If the extra funds required to make TPI work were available, I'd stick with TPI. Especially for a daily driver.
