too loud?

I've just orderd a flowmaster exhaust (back box and tailpipes only) that bolts up to my existing pipe and cat.

thing is, i heard this setup on a mates fourth gen and it sounded nice , but a bit loud.

will it be quieter on my thirdgen, i have a 305 , not a 350, single cat and 2 1/4 pipework.

will this make it quieter than the 350 'bird.

the stock exhaust is near silent, how much louder will it be on my car?

Depending on which model Flowmaster you bought, it will be considerably louder than stock and probably not much, if any, quieter than the 350. I have a Flowmaster cat-back on my 305 RS, and I can almost always set off car alarms in parking garages. I like the sound, but it's not a quiet exhaust.

I forgot to add that mine is a 3" cat-back. I'm sure that probably adds a little to the noise, but even w/ a smaller exhaust, it will still be noticeably louder.

If you don't have headers , I don't think it will be too loud.

does it set off alarms when you rev it or just when idling,

I don't think the neighbours will like it if i set their alarms off ever night!

I have a 3 inch Cat Back series 80 flowmaster with both cats removed and a 3 inch exhaust cut out on my 91 Z28.....and its WAY to loud for the street with the cut out plate off. I have set like 4 car alarms off at once...rattle windows....all kinda of stuff. Even with the cut out plate on.....the series 80 flowmaster 3 inch cat back is REALLY loud on a 5.7 TPI (L98). I'm going to be getting a Mccord Power Plate for my cut out so I can control the volume....that will be really nice....my brother has a series 80 flowmaster on his 87 Z28 (305)...it has a nice hollow tone and it sounds good....it's much louder then a stock exhaust....but....it's not so loud that it's annoying or anything like my 5.7...it sounds good though. My 5.7 is like 10 times louder then my brothers 5.0....but....that's how I like it!!

My 305 TPI is practically open exhaust right now (Hooker cat-back on back order. Still.) and I have to rev it a bit right next to a car to get the alarm to go off (don't ask how I know, heh....), so I don't think you'll have to worry about setting off the neighbor's alarms every morning...

I have a Magnaflow (their "quivalent" to an 80 series Flow) on my 88 305 TPI IROC, plus a hi-flow cat. It's pretty mild mannered and not any louder than stock at idle or at low power engine operation like just crusing down the road. However, when you get on it, above about 3k rpm, it gets loudern'hell. Significantly louder than stock. I like it, no annoying interior resonance, it lets me be inconspicuous when I want (cops around), it doesn't **** off the neighbors, and yet it will bark like a big dog when you romp on it. It appears to be pretty free flowing as well, on the passenger side exit, there is no muffling at all, just a curved baffle directing 1/2 the incoming gases out the exit, and you can see clear through to the driver side exit. You also can't beat the lifetime warranty. And it *looks* stock, just in case a cop hassles you.

I ran a no muffler setup (just cats) for two years. It is LOUD but not so loud that it is to loud for the street.

And compression makes exhaust louder, not necessarily cubes.

every car i go by, that has an alarm, goes nuts when i drive by. I dont even have to be in a parking garage. Ive got the 80 series flowmaster with no cat. This car is louder than my grandpa's old pickup that has a 460 with dual 15 year old glasspacks. The car will set alarms off just by starting it up. Oh, and it really pisses my neighbors off at about 5 in the morning. I love it. BTW, im gonna keep the flowmaster when i putters headers on and a 2.5 in pipe all the way back to the muffler. Not to mention the 350 horse 383 waiting to go in will make it just a little louder.

:hail: Flowmaster :hail:

Only when I rev it... If it did that on idle, I think my neighbors would have me hanging from the tree in front of my house!

the one on my mates fourthgen sounded nice, and i could eisily live with it, but just a fraction less wouldn't hurt!
