Custom ram air

Ok, so I was doing some thinking, and I think I came up with a very unique idea for cold air on a camaro? Well you see... I plan to get the ss hood. So making that functional is a must. But also I was thinking about how you can run the piping from the foglights to get cold air. Now what I have thought of, that I don't think anyone else has done, was making it to where both of these areas supply cold air at the same time. For instance, have it to where when you close the hood, somehow, the foglight tubing, matches up with the ram air hood, and then goes straight into the TB. Which means twice as much air in. Being that I have the LT1, I thought this would be a neat idea, and a very beneficial one if done right... Keep in mind, this is still in thought.

Well if I'm not mistaken the Ram Air Firebirds and some of the SS Camaro's (4th gen) had a ram air box that matched up with the hood when shut. You could adapt somthing similar, with it hooking up to the TB in the conventional manner and the opening matching up to the hood. Then just pipe into the box from the front with your ram air from behind your fogs.

Just an idea

Re: Custom ram air

I plan to use the TPI air boxes to bring air in from the front then my daytona hood will work better to let hot air out the back. I plan to install my louvers on the hood flat (raised) and use the 1-2" piece in front of the louvers as my ram air.

You could easily route some dryer piping from the fogs to the tpi air boxes, up to a fitted air intake (as stated above) for use with the SS hood. Its not that hard, just needs to be done...some piping measuring and fitting. Good to go. Post up when done.

Re: Custom ram air

Well here lies the prob... I have to finish building my LT1, and purchase an SS hood before any of this will take effect? Which sucks ****.

Re: Custom ram air

Air coming in from hood and grill may be a bit of overkill. Engine can only use so much air.You also have to consider bad weather like rain. you want to make sure you have some type of baffle or a way to close off any way water might get in.Sun coast creations sells ram air hoods. Not sure if they have the SS style for 3rd gens or not(functional, that is)
