I see L69 in there. That was one of the top of the line engines early on in the third gens. Some (most) would argue it was a better motor than the CFI 305.

That will tell the member that they have a GTA, which isn't true.
Again, those master RPO codes are misleading because the RPO codes were recycled and changed. Y84 is a good example of that. Early ThirdGen Y84 was the Special Edition Recaro, which this member has, while 1987-1992 ThirdGen Y84 was the GTA. The two are quite different.

Re: What can anyone really tell me about this car?
I picked it up in November. It has high mileage but was very well taken care of. I had a Recaro back in 1992 that was stolen and never recovered. I am now 44 years old and couldnt remember much about that car other than the seats and Recaro door inserts. Does anyone think louvres would take away from this Trans am? Thanks again for all input.

Louvers are one of those things that can be removed, with minimal or no damage to the car... If you want louvers (and can find them) I say go for it.

I honestly like the look of the louvers but hate the feel/sound. I had louvers once on a former camaro and when i would get up on the highway they would bang and rattle around. I took them off and sold them and never looked back. Plus they take away from your field of vision.

Re: What can anyone really tell me about this car?
I think the louvers get a bad rap due to people owning the cheap, crappy ones. I have the factory louvers on my car and I have been up to 120+ without a single rattle or squeak. Mine are very secure across the top, sides and bottom, leaving no play for them to rattle!
By the way, here's the view out my rear view mirror. The louvers don't impede visibility hardly at all.

For more info on the Trans Am S/E - Recaro T/A history see my article:
http://www.necamaro-firebird.org/for...hp?f=39&t=5455
The RPO DE1 Black GM Aluminum Rear Window Louvers were a Factory Option on the Recaro T/A.. finding a set of them is getting tough though.. many were ruined and other scrapped in the mad scrap metal craze several years ago...
There were 1321 "Recaro Edition" Trans Am S/E's built in 1984, there is no number known about how many were 5 speed vs 700R4 autos... but based on the numbers disparity throughout all F-Body's in 1984, it'd roughly be 1/3 of them being 5 speed, making them fairly rare...
T-tops were also a deletable option.. RPO Y81, very rare, but they are out there.
The Trans Am S/E was Pontiac's Flagship Model from 1976 to 1984, with the package ending in 1984 with these cars... and ALL 1982-84 Trans Am S/E's are Recaro Editions... (1982 is actually a Limited Edition, but is still the Trans Am S/E)
1983 Daytona 500 Edition Trans Am is NOT a Recaro Edition, but it has Recaro Seats.
1984 15th Anniversary Edition Trans Am is NOT a Recaro Edition, but it has Recaro Seats
1985 & 1986 Trans Am's and Firebird S/E's with Recaro Seats are NOT Recaro Editions, but have the Recaro Seat Option.
1987-'92 GTA's ARE Trans Am S/E's, but are NOT the Same as the 1976-'84 Black and Gold Trans Am Special Edition because they were available in a number of color combinations and Pontiac did not differentiate them, except for the 1989 Indy Pace Car Turbo Trans Am.
The 1984's came Standard with:
- CC1 T-tops (deletable option)
- Special Gold-plated Screaming Eagle Medallions on the exterior sail panels
- Gold "Trans Am" decal on the fenders (Solid Version)
- W62 Aero Package w/ Black-Only paint.
- T47 Functional Turbo Bulge Hood.
- DX1 Gold louvered-appearing "Fade" decal w/ creaming Eagle with "5.0L HO" call outs
- D92 "Recaro T/A" inserts on the door handles
- Recaro-only, 3 Gold pinstripes that go around the lower beltline and unlike regular Trans Ams, the stripes go up around the wheelwells and end on either side of the rear license plate in a boxed ending.
- AQ9 Tan Leather Recaro Seats w/ CamelTan Parella side material.
- Camel Tan Luxury interior with carpeted panels.
- Black floor mats.
- Black Leather interior appointments, steering wheel, shift ****, e-brake handle.
- Black map pocket w/ Gold Bird & "Trans Am Script, Gold threads on top flap.
- Air Conditioning (deletable)
- L69 HO 305 9.5:1 190 HP @4800 RPM, 240 ft/lb @3200 RPM

- L69-spec Q-jet E4ME carb ("DR" rods with the "M" hanger)
- L69-spec knock sensor
- L69-spec EGR valve
- HD radiator
- HD Alt
- L69 Spec T-5 close ratio PN: 1352-070 F-Body 5.0 V8 L69 "V" 3.15 3.35 1.93 1.29 1.00 0.68 w/ L69 spec aluminum flywheel.
- L69 spec 700R4 w/ 1900 RPM stall (LG4 1400 rpm stall)
- WS6 Performance Suspension *incl G80 Positraction
---WS7 due to a factory-delete shortage of rear disc components
---WY5 due to a shortage of Positraction units.

- N78 55P Gold 15" Deep-dish "High-Tech" wheels
