No start. Dammit!

Hey Everyone.

So i got to the point today, where the motor is ready to run, everything else (driveline related) is finished.

Went to fire it up, and it wouldnt start.

Hooked my HPTuners VCM Scanner to it, and played with the editor a bit to see if i could get it running, but no dice.

I get it to do about 300-320rpm (75 rpm is cranking), i see it throw in 13* advance for it to start, injectors run up to a 7% duty cycle, i can smell fuel, i know its sparking, as it fires a few times & begins to draw vacuum, (goes down to about 90kpa from 97ish atmospheric when its firing, 96 or so when cranking)

Im stumped. Ive checked all my sensors, crank position is the only thing i can see throwing it out.

Without a cam sensor, it would just guess based on the crank, but it would still run a fail-safe mode, maf, tps/iat, all injectors, coils, coolant temp, oxygen, etc are all pluged in and getting their correct voltages.

Could doing a crank learn solve this? Anyone here ever done a crank re-learn?

Think thats my next option. Only thing i can see stopping it from firing. The computer & shortblock never had anything to do with eachother, so im starting to think thats likely my problem.

Re: No start. Dammit!

Do you have the right crank sensor for your crank (i.e. 58 vs. 24)?

Oh yeah, i know the way these motors work.

Its a 24x crank reluctor, and sensor. Havent touched them. I know its getting a reading from teh crank, as its sparking, and giving fuel. Without crank sensor input, it gives neither.

Im going to try a few things tommorow night to see what my outcome is.

can't have spark and fuel and no start Unless timing is way off or not enough fuel. Will it fire or run off starting fluid?

Bingo. With all the excitement of getting the car going this year, i totally forgot to check how much fuel i left in the take from last year. (i have no fuel gauge yet)

I could hear it sputtering, so i figured it was getting ample fuel, and i had an other issue. Threw a jerry can of 94 octane in and braaaap.

So she runs now.

Re: No start. Dammit!

Haha...sounds like the fits I had with my second car. Wouldnt run at first. I tried all these drastic measures and totally over looked things like "is my fuel pump running?". haha.

Glad you got her running. VIDS!!

How long til you can take her for a ride do you think?

Re: No start. Dammit!

Thanks guys!

Ill get a clip tonight of it running.

the 113LSA is really mild, its obvious its got motorwork due to it being loud and the exhaust being a little aggressive, but its not excessive by any means.

I tuned an idle for it, and it idles like a dream already. Ive gotta get the dyno tune in the next couple days.

J. - Hopefully within the next few days, from here its just interior battles, as the running gear is completely finished!!
