LT1 swap
do any of you guys know what part of the old harness i need to keep when swapping a LT1 into a 89 GTA? I bought a painless harness which makes it somewhat simple but just need to know what to keep from the old harness. I'm not keeping the A/C or the emissions.
thanks,
gb

Re: LT1 swap
You could have saved alot of money by avoiding the Painless here see if this helps there is a c-100 and a c207 pinout on it for a 89.

Re: LT1 swap
thank you for the input. the chart says 90-92 at the top. will it still apply for a 89 year harness?

Re: LT1 swap
i see you did a similar swap. Did you use the original harness or the harness from the donor car? How did the swap turn out?

Re: LT1 swap
thanks for the help. As i understand it, i need to keep the HVAC (or not because i'm deleting the A/C), the cruise, and the front light harnesses and get rid of the fuel injection harness? Remember, i bought the painless harness.

Re: LT1 swap
Painless harness should be stand alone. That means you hook up Batt, IGN, Fuel and gauges
Follow the 3rd gen prep thread and use the pinouts page to identify each of the necessary splices from the painless harness
Use a non-AC HVAC box to delete AC the right way. Simply unhooking the AC lines and leaving the big box works, but looks terrible. No changes to the wiring are required in switching when you swap the original blower motor in and change the bird cage. To use the non-AC fan, youll need to cut the fan connector off and crimp spade terminals on the 12v and grd points
I can just about guarantee the painless harness will have NO provisions for cruise control, so anything added will be by you. Read my thread about digital cruise with ltx/lsx swaps about hooking the wiring up and making a cable. Some have rigged up a system to reuse the old vacuum cruise unit, but its easier to assemble a new harness and use the digital box designed around the newer PCMs. Using the new box, the old cruise harness comes out
Front light harness is untouched in any type of swap, EFI, carb or otherwise

Re: LT1 swap
thanks Pocket, think i'll go without the cruise control. It's never worked anyway so why bother?
