So I'm getting the GTA out to drive

since I blew a head gasket in the '98 the other night, so it's going to be down for a while. I figured "I need to change the oil since the car has sat since '08". I pull the oil plug and it looks like 90w gear oil coming out, actually thicker than that. This was Castrol Syntec oil that was in the car and it looked like molassas coming out. Has anyone seen this happen before with synthetic oil? This motor has less than 5k miles on it since I rebuilt it. My uncle who used to work for Cummings diesel and a state DOT mechanic for years gave me some suggestions to get it thinned out enough to get the oil out so wish me luck with it.

Now I have to go buy some regular oil to put in it before I throw the Royal Purple in it

Re: So I'm getting the GTA out to drive

Well, looks like the trick worked. Let the kerosene sit overnight, pulled the drain plug this morning and let it sit while my daughter had softball practice. Came back, put the plug in, the oil filter on filled it up with 5 quarts of standard oil and she's holding 40psi at idle. Going to drive it a week, change the oil again, drive it another week then put the royal purple in it and call it good.

Hmm I run the German Castrol too and I have noticed that its VERY thick every spring after storage. I keep in the garage at home and drive it to the shop for the spring freshen up/oil change etc. I had a PCV delete with a filter on there so I chalked it up to condensation absorbing over the winter but?

Castrol regular oil is great, the synthetic not so much, Mobil 1 is the way to go.
