New LS swap oil pan from Speed Engineering

Just saw this new pan from Speed Engineering. The price of $250 is quite a bit cheaper than the standard F-body pan. Dimensioned drawings are below. Thoughts? I already have the F-body pan for ym project, so I won't be trying this. Looks like it includes everything but the dipstick.

Here is a dimensioned drawing of the Speed Engineering pan:

Not really cheaper than the aftermarket replacement f-body pans at all, this is possibly more than that.

It looks VERY similar to my JZ Motorworks pan. That pan should allow you to run a Y pipe exactly like the 3rd gen routing, between the pan and the crossmember.

China fbody oil pans are $99 new on eBay. I got one and the casting is nicer than a new GM one I got on my car now. A GM pickup tube is $40 and you cut the end off a truck windage tray and your all done. So for $150 your cheaper than the speed engineering and it’s like 1/2” shorter.

I think I found it. Link - LS1 Fbody Pan - Ebay $96 Is this the same as the pan you have?

I don't think I can link to non sponsored vendors publicly I will send you a PM with the link. Heads up the price of these has actually DROPPED... they are now $95 and it drops if you buy more than 1. Remember these are pans only... you still need pickup and windage tray (cut the stock truck one for free) and you will need a gasket. The casting is alot nicer tan my new Geniune GM fbody pan.

PM sent

Re: New LS swap oil pan from Speed Engineering

Here are some pics of the ebay pan that I run on one of my 5.3s. I also included picks of the cut stock truck windage tray. This is the now $95 ebay pan, new GM fbody pickup, spare oil level sensor and cut truck windage tray. As you can see the casting is VERY smooth inside and outside where my GM pan is very rough with casting flash... the inside you can't even try to wipe with a towel as its so rough and sharp it shreds the towel.

Re: New LS swap oil pan from Speed Engineering

Wow, thanks for all the pictures. Looks like a nice pan!!.

I found a link and edited my previous post but you responded super fast!! Haha. I think I will go with one of these on my L99 (LS3 conversion). I think the L99 windage tray can be cut just like the truck. I will cross that bridge when I pull the stock pan off.

Re: New LS swap oil pan from Speed Engineering

Would this pan work without having to use a tubular k member or notch the stock one?

F-body or one of the Holley pans is what you want.. This pan is too expensive for what it is.

Re: New LS swap oil pan from Speed Engineering

Is that the Holley 302-2? Will that one clear without having to notch the k member?

They all clear the kmember except the vette, GTO, and truck pans. The issue is which AC compressor are you wanting to run? That determines if you have to notch it or not.

Re: New LS swap oil pan from Speed Engineering

I will not be running AC so that is not a worry. I read in other places that the k member had to be cut about a 1/2" to clear the extra length from the longer rear sump area of the f body oil pan, is this incorrect?

There could be interference depending on what type of engine mounts you use. However, most companies will tell you what pan their mounts were designed with. 99% of the time it's an F-body pan.
