New bests

Still haven't gotten the 60' times I want but it's getting closer. I made 6 passes down the track today. Best 60' time was 1.430 and I want that 1.3xx. ET was 9.6x all day except for the last pass because I spun off the line after the jet cars covered the track with soot.

I'm going to do a chassis adjustment first thing tomorrow morning before time trials start. On my last pass tonight, I was in the left lane and almost took out the tree on the launch.

I lost twice today. Lost in the first round. Bought back into the second round and won that to a red light while running 9.659 on a 9.65 dial. We had to wait a few hours before the third round because of breakage and the show cars made passes. A fuel altered hit the wall hard after hitting the bump in the right lane. Even my car with suspension is unloading at the bump. Whenever possible, I'm now taking the left lane.

Third round, I get paired up against the same car that beat me in the first round. I spun off the line and lost again. It was getting late and I really didn't want to stay much later anyway so going out was good. We had a late start because of rain during the morning and lots of breakage slowed the program down during the afternoon and early evening. A car pitted beside me threw a rod and oiled down the track. A fuel altered hit the wall hard. A few other minor oil downs. You can tell it's getting close to the end of the season from breakage.

Re: New bests

Are you more consistent now with the back half and big tire or was it more consistent before with the small tire?

Congrats on the new best. I set a new best at altitude myself Saturday.

I don't think we had a single oil-down all day, the last points race of the summer season. Those that did break didn't spill anything. We usually see a lot of breakage in the early season, it seems.

Re: New bests

Hard to say if I had consistency with a 10.5" tire. I kept breaking engines. Last year my ET ranged from 9.754 with the current build right at the end of the year to as slow as 10.3 when I blew the engine in the middle of summer. Before I blew the engine it was running 9.8-10.0. Yesterday I was running consistent 9.6xx

60' times are still not consistent enough but I'm still playing with 4-link settings and tire pressure to find what works best. I haven't had a lot of T&T time because I've been going rounds which for me is unusual.

I can feel the car hopping off the line so I know the suspension is unloading. I need to move the IC forward and down some more so the back end doesn't rise up as much and unload the suspension.

I was playing with tire pressures and launch rpms but 60' times yesterday were
1.463
1.475
1.447
1.458
1.430
1.469

2 weeks ago before I yanked my tranny out for repairs, 60' times were
1.532
1.489
1.495
1.466
1.495
1.484
1.516
1.488
1.532
1.513
1.541
1.549
1.527

The new torque converter, low band and pump really helped.

Re: New bests

Nice day at the track today. Got a little hot in the afternoon. I moved my IC forward as soon as I got to the track. Checked a few other things and I was ready to go.

First pass at 10:30 am and 4465 feet density altitude got me a personal best. Reaction time .007, 1.420 60' time and 9.629 at 140.58 mph.

I dropped the tire pressure down to 7 psi for the second hit and got another personal best. A .018 reaction, 1.409 60' and 9.575 at 141.02 mph. Density altitude was now 4940 feet by 11:40 am. That was the best for the day as we then got into eliminations after lunch.

DA climbed to over 5500 feet by mid afternoon. I went 3 rounds of eliminations. Won the first round when my opponent had shifter problems. When I passed him at the 1/8 mile mark I knew I had an easy win and as soon as I crossed the 1000' mark, I was hard on the brakes since he was nowhere beside me. I don't think I would have broken out but I had to make sure. My reaction time was .080 to his .046. My ET and mph were scrubbed off so much making it hard to dial for the next round.

Second round I won against a red light which was good. The car was starting to slow down. I think the tranny was getting too hot. An .026 reaction time and I ran 9.711 on a 9.60 dial.

Third round I lost by less than 5 feet. MOV .0234

Timeslip ------ Me ------ him
dial............ 9.68 .......... 9.04
RT ............ .010 .......... .015
1/4 ............9.736 ........ 9.068
MPH .......... 140.12 ...... 150.40

I was tempted to dial in 9.70 but thought I could get that .68 or a .69 pass. If I dialed a 9.70, he still would have beat me by .003.

So that's 11 more runs this weekend and 53 plus one I didn't get a timeslip for the year. That's more than I've done in the last 2 years combined.

5 passes today. Best reaction time .007, Worst .080. Throw out the worst and average of the other 4 is .015 since the second worse was only .026.

Best 60' was 1.409. Worst was 1.432. The other 3 were 1.420, 1.424 and 1.427

The next and last race of the year is Sept 22/23. There may still be a special race in early October. I already know what changes I want to do over the winter providing nothing major breaks between now and the end of the season.

Re: New bests

Rat Trap.

Broke off the left front wheel assembly, crushed in the left side headers and bent the front of the frame. Broke the fiberglass body all up also.

I was talking to the driver the next day when I was looking at it. He said they'll just take a sawzall to the frame and replace the damaged section. They'll be ready to go again in a couple of weeks for their next show.

Re: New bests

OK I thought that you guys had Nanook and Rat Trapp back again. glad that they'll have it back together and that no one was hurt! Did the fuel altereds put any big #s on the board?

Re: New bests

Our track is rough. I think if they were in the left lane, 200+ mph was possible. Rat Trapp was in the right lane and hit the bump shortly after the 60' mark. He went across the track and hit the left wall. Good thing Nanook was slow off the line and was able to steer out of the way.

I didn't see much of the racing. The top fuel front engine dragsters were impressive. I didn't even bother to watch the jet car. Nostalgia racing is sure becoming a lot more popular.

NHRA banned the fuel altereds back in the 80's but they're becoming so popular that everyone wants to go see them again. They're built just like the old cars but with a new safety upgrades.

We had 3 fuel altereds, at least one fuel FED and a jet car. They also had the renegades racing and top qualifier got into the 6's.
