10 seconds

I must say, going home with a timeslip that far exceeds your expectations is ALWAYS a good feeling. But somehow, it is trumped by that feeling of what you left on the table. What you could have done different. Or that one small thing that you found when you arived home that you swear could have made the difference. We have all done this.

My last pass at the track netted 4 runs as follows....

11.17
11.08
11.05
11.01

Granted, I am satisfied......but not completely!

Thats why I purchased this......

And if that wasn't enough... I also purchased a brand new set of M/T E.T streets, right off the shelf.

My 60ft's were a joke because I was leaving from idle due to bad slicks.

So, 10's? I hope so. Otherwise I wasted a lot of money.

Anyone else have a similar story about almost hitting a goal or number?

10's are no problem. Patrick at Pro Systems builds one hell of a carb. I have one my self.

Re: 10 seconds

Traction from the new slicks will probably do it. Depends on track prep also. Good tires on a bad track may still not hook up.

Re: 10 seconds

Should have it with a better 60. My first nitrous 383 passes were 10.92-10.96 at 124 on a very rich nitrous shot. 1.55 60 foot or so. Alittle quicker on your 60 you'd match my times so your gonna get 10's with good tires with full launch provided the track holds

Re: 10 seconds

I have went 7.06. At 7.20 your equaling a 11.20 to 11.30.

You can just multiply the actual number by 1.5723

Yep, 12.01 with a 1.62 60ft.

Maybe a few jet changes or a fiberglass hood and I would hit 11's. Maybe a few extra rpm shift change. Maybe this or that !!!! LOL.

I know how you feel. So close you can taste it.

I built mine with the goal of running mid 12's, never got close the first couple times out. Then one time I decided to chop the single 3 inch exhaust off at the y-pipe and darn thing ran a 12.22. Hitting 11's on the motor has far exceeded my original goal and now I have a new one, break into the 9's on nitrous before a buddy of mine does

1/8th mile...Best run 7.20 off the foot in a 87 T-top IROC. Was going for the 6.0 class at mt local strip. But since I have been in IRAQ the class is now 5.80. Still not close to my goal but I have been saving all my money hear in IRAQ and am going to get a hardtop and do it right this time.

Re: 10 seconds

i've definitely been there. the 305 i built years ago was supposed to run a 13.75 index in the American Muscle class back when the NSCA was still around. first outings netted 14.4x's...and everyone had a big laugh cause i didn't run what i thought i'd run. got a lot of "i told you so's" since everyone told me not to build the 305. that just got me going harder. the same exact bottom end/cam/heads that went 14.4x's ended up going 13.03 after tweaking here and there and playing with different gear/converter/induction/exhaust. that was the most impressive one i've done. 13.0x's out of a 310ci engine with stock 416's and a 214/224 camshaft.

the next combo's nearly skipped over 12's entirely, but never got me to what i'd like...a solid 11 second street car. .060" over 350 with 113's went 12.16 with problems, then i broke it. 305 v.2 went 12.31 then broke, 305 v.3 went 12.38, then went to .030 over 350 with dart iron eagles, went 12.4x's with LOTS of problems, and now the ls1 has been 12.15 with some small issues that i think i've fixed....11's shouldn't be a problem on the next outing.

Re: 10 seconds

I've had a lot of similar experiences with my Camaro - from running in the low 15's back in 1991 with an LG4 with bolt ons to running in the mid 11's with a mild 350 and some laughing gas. Each time the naysayers told me it wouldn't be so fast, yet it is. Feels great to be in that club.

Re: 10 seconds

You'll LOVE the new carb, i was overly impressed with how my car sounded-completely different, and how the plugs looked driving on the street and racing, not to mention i've dynoed twice with this carb and have touched NOTHING and it's as close to perfect as a carb can be on fuel distribution...great investment!!

I remember years ago i went from my 12.70 355 and built a AFR headed 388. First day out with the new combo after working out bugs on the street prior, i was literally stuck running 12.00 EVERY pass all day long and won the first race i entered that day, but it was bitter sweet, i expected more obviously. Buddy had me pull the distributor and found it was hashed internally, so i bought another new one....i went though 1 every year for 4 years since everything under the rotor would frag...but after installing the new dizzy, right off the trailer i ran a 11.20, so i was pumped to have gained .8 with a simple fix and was hell bent on 10.'s N/A with pump gas. Lil more tuning and a good weather day got me back to back 10.99's.

So now with this 427, when i first assembled all the guts i wanted (had a shop build it) i was after a pump gas 10.50 car. Now alot happened in 4 years but this spring after sorting out all the screw up's from hack shops black balling me i ran a 10.36 on pump gas N/A in street trim so i was stoked. Unfortuantely i fragged it before i was able to get my 9.50 slip on the bottle, so maybe next year.

The GOALS are the killer, once you set a goal, at least for me, it's impossible to stop me from getting what i want....gets spendy sometimes

Re: 10 seconds

should do the trick. i've heard of mid 11 sec cars dropping .3 in the 1/4 just from a prosystems carb.

i didnt have enough time to sort out my last motor which i wanted to run 10.90's but since that went poof, i want to build a N/A pumpgas 9.90 motor or an 8.90 procharged screamer. time will tell. good luck on your mission. you should get that 10 sec slip.

Re: 10 seconds

First off like what has been said you will love that carb. Patrick is a great guy and you cant beat the customer service. I was on the phone with him one night at 10pm and he was great. Now as gar as goals when I built this new 421 I was hoping for mid to low 10's. I got the "that thing should run hi 9's" but I wasn't getting my hopes up, sure I was hoping but tried not to let that get to me. The very first pass off idle rolling into the throttle I went a 10.05 @ 136. I was very happy. The next pass I figured well lets go for it and ran a 9.87, the 3rd and final pass of the night it went a 9.83. I was happy as can be and was glad to get kicked off the track for not having a license and safety equipment. Good luck and I am seeing a 10 second slip in your hand very soon.

Have been haunted by that for years, car ran 11.0s for a year prior to breaking 10's, once spraying with 125 shot, goal was 9.99 on pump and 10 bolt, went 10.09 Placed in 6 speed, wanted 10.9s on 10 bolt, ran 11.002 prior to wrecking car.. In new car went to MIR to hit high 10 with 6 speed, developed a 4 gear miss first pass that stayed with, ran 11.09 with miss!!!

BBC camaro, had hit 9.6s sevel times, traved to MIR for best time prior to tearing down to sale and place running gear in Vega, first pass blow trans still running 9.55 with worst 60ft ever due to slippage. Goal for Vega was 8.99, has been 9.02, 9.03 this year! So yeah, I have been there once or twice.

You will hit tens, just getting the rpm up off line will help with better tire.

Well, I can still taste it. I can't see it but it's there. Took the car out on Saturday, made three embarrasing passes on a crippled 10 bolt rear in search of .03 of a seconed and a 10.99 slip.

13.0 @ 123 with a 2.8 60ft (drove to second and mashed it)

11.60 @124 (blazing first gear up) with a 2.1 60ft.

The third pass was my new best 60ft and new best 1/8.
But I had to jam on the brakes because the hood was about to frisbee away because of the wind. So I didn't get my slip because of $12 hood pins

run 3 -

RT .763
60' 1.58
330 4.516
1/8 6.993
MPH 98.32
1000 9.28
1/4 11.64
MPH 86.56

Sometimes drag racing downrite blows!

11/28/09.

Turned timing up to 36*. Ran a string of 10.90's @ 125 with 60ft's in the 1.61 range.

I have come to the conclusion that I have a solid 10 seconed motor in a 12 seconed chassis! This car just doesn't want to leave right for a good pass. I finnally slipped by with a 10 seconed slip by the skin of my teeth.

seems kinda ironic that our local converter guru can't get his car to sixty, lol!

j/k! seriously though, congrats on the running the number. what do you have (or not have) done to the car to help out with the sixty foot times? my car run's 12.0x's at 111.xxmph and will sixty in the mid 1.5x range...

Re: 10 seconds

Your telling me, lol. The funny part is I have two different converters right now for the car waiting to go in but there set up tight for nitrous. I also have a ware house full of inventory and a team of converter builders to build what I want. I keep this 3200 stall in because it just plain rips on the street. It's a vey exciting streetcar!

As of now the only thing i've upgraded is the Spohn T/A. It also has 90/10's and
50/50's. They seem to work well with transfering weight.

I have been getting serious about selling the chassis as a good streetcar and buying one thats all set up already. EX. Nova, SBC Mustang, S-10, etc...
