Car: Camaro IROC-Z '89
Engine: 350 TPI /w Procharger P1SC
Transmission: TH700R4 with Transgo shiftkit
Axle/Gears: 2.77 Borg Warner
Supercharger - ATI or Paxton, Prices etc.

Hi!

I am considering getting a Supercharger for my IROC, but over where I live they aren't that easy to come by for a fair price, so I am considering buying one from the states.

How much are they brand new (I want a complete kit that fits an '89 IROC /w 350), and which one should I choose?

And where can I get them?

(A friend is going over to the states soon, will have him bring one back for me....).

Is it safe to install on a 350 with 90000 miles on the clock or should I wait until it's time to rebuild before considering a Supercharger?

As long as youve taken care of your iroc( including tuneups, oil change and not beat the hell out of your iroc) there should be no problem. The best supercharger without a doubt is the ATI procharger mainly because of its price and 30% more power than other superchargers. If you ever read chevy high performance or car craft theres this add. I believe the place is called motorsports something, and they price the ATI at $2,900-3,200. If u order the ATI u must follow a recommended tune up and u must change the oil every 3,000 miles. DID i mention the ATI suprcharger includes an intercooler. FOR more information got to www.procharger.com and they send u this 5 page catalog of their products . They also include pics on blown Z's its cool. I recommnd ATI procharger.

zaphodb,

Alot of members here have or have had the paxton sc's, most have had problems with the bearings inside the unit, plus they are limited to a low RPM (just under 5000), which is fine for a stock engine...and they cost about $2500.00 us. It seems most people go with the paxton because that's the only company that offers a kit for the vee belt style car ('87 and earlier).

But i see you have a '89 which would have the serpentine belt, so now you can opt for a ATI procharger or a Vortech supercharger, either one will cost about $3000.00 to $4000.00 us. both are very high quality units, and the ATI also includes a intercooler with the kit. If you decide to go with the ATI, you will want to call them in advance to let them know what options you will want, i.e. 2 core or 3 core intercooler, polished finish, etc....

My question to you would be, is your car a right hand drive??? if it is, then you might run into some installation issues.

If there is anyway way i can help you with this process, please don't be afraid to ask.

later.

I had a simillar question. I have a 91 Z28 with a 305 with t-5 now t-56. I think I got lucky and got an extremely fast one. Stock before any mods it pulled 9.10 - 9.0's in the 1/8th consistantly. I have added home made ram air, 4.10 gears headers and true dual exhaust and it has went in the 8.40's on drag radials. What differance would the 12psi procharger kit make in et, and does the kit come complete as far as injectors, fuel pump, and ignition?

Speedfreek.

The ATI procharger kit does not include new injectors, nor do they require a ignition box, It does include a loud inline booster pump and a adjustable FMU.

Hi, Swede!

Talk to the guys at www.musclecars.se they have installed atleast 40 kits of ATI superchargers. My recommendation is rebuild first then ATI, I wouldt spend 3000-4000$ if I wasent sure the bottom end will hold up for it.

I have talked to several guys here in sweden who installed supercharger and many of then blew a hole in the pistons or they have had problem with blow by and oil leakage. If you like put an email to me, I'm going to rebuild this spring....

Every Paxton has the 90° bend from the get go. That translates into 5% inefficent. ATI does the straight shot.
