The rubber swells or disintegrates causing blockage or fully open.
Common problem in our cars with original but aged parts.

Mine will do that sometimes and it it under pressure. Depends on...

The most common reason for the missing print on the switches is scrubbing too hard and cleaners.
Simple soap and water works best

I havent looked that closely but remember that the factory put a stop leak pellet in the overflow tank which causes it to be dirty. Thats a fact. The garbage seen in those tanks is usually that.

Nice info guys, again I alwys thought the the HEI was designed for better spark at wider gaps. My car still has the orginal plugs and wires. Seems to start just fine.

I think you have to put yourself in the mindset of 1985, GM plant employee, etc. I would imagine he saw, heard, and read things we see 25+ years later.

Another piece of info, dirty radiator reservoir tanks. He said all new GM cars in 1985 had a 1x1 inch wax tablet put in the tank, he said it was stop leak and thats is what made most tanks dirty...
