I have been running without mine for about 3 months now, no problems to speak of. It doesnt seem to lose any power when it warms up, I think it is just to keep oil from splashing up on the intake.

Pull the exhaust manifold off... will save you some headaches unless you break the bolts on the down pipe. If the O2 has been on there for a while, chances are it is not going to come loose easily...

That's your A/C compressor.... not your starting problem unless it is so siezed up that it is keeping the motor from turning over fast enough to fire. Check for spark and fuel.
