Can you get the VIN? Or better yet the SPID (the decal that should be in the console for an '89, that lists all the RPOs, make sure the VIN on the decal matches the VIN on the car), I'd be interested...

They are two completely different engines. The valve covers are different, the AC compressor is totally different, throttle cable(s) & linkage, ac lines are different ones and positioned slightly...

If I understand you correctly, it sounds like the tonneau latch on the driver's side is stuck in the closed position even though the cover's pin isn't in it. The cover's pin is hitting the closed...

ASC "kits" for 3gen's, if there were any to be had, are now long since a thing of the past. As mentioned above, a salvage car with some decent intact parts might be your best bet to start off with....

One ongoing trend with all the posted verts here is that they are all automatics. The sticks are a little harder to find and both cars being equal, will fetch even a few $$$ more.

Starting in '89, the Camaro convertible rear seats had retractors. They are mounted to the underside of the tonneau cover. This could be quite different than a hardtop and may not be compatible.

You can still release the tonneau cover using the back-up cable releases. There should be one for both sides. These are meant to be a temporary solution until you get the switch operated method...

The sequential production numbers rarely start at 000001 for each year or in most cases at all. The numbers can start at whatever the manufacturer decides. For some makes (not neccessarily Camaros)...
