relocating - car transportation companies ?
Hello. Can anyone recommend a company that can pick up my thirdgen in Dickson, TN and transport it to my new address in Los Angeles ?
I dont have the time to drive it cross-country, and besides it would probably cost me more on gas, hotels and food. I'm a hungry guy
If anyone has experience with this, please let us know. Thanks !

The yellow pages are your best bet. Call a few company's and find out the expected delivery dates and the costs. Make sure they are INSURED!! and expect to spend $1,000.00 plus. You can also call AAA and find out who they would recommend. Good luck!

i drive for a towing company and occasionally we haul cars across country, mostly trucks , it will be expensive about how many mile would that be ?there are transport companys that can do it cheaper but will be done at their convience not yours. they usually have a local towing company pick it up and store it till they have a truck allready going in your direction then they will pick it up on a multi car hauler or put in back of a semi trailer. i can get you a quote if you would like ? or you can e-mail me for more info repoact18@yahoo.com thanks dave wysong

About two years ago, I went online and got quotes from several shippers to send my Firebird from Franklin, TN to Fontana, CA where I picked it up.
Quotes ranged from 700-1400, but when I didn't reply right away. I started getting lower quotes from the more reputable companies.
make sure you use an expendable phone number and e-mail address, because they never stop calling or e-mailing.
Most people say that Dependable Auto Shippers and AAA Advantaage are among the best. They are fully insured and are not middlemen.
Any other company, I would check out rip off report.com for. There are quite a few middle men you pay, who then hire other companies who really don't give a sh:t about your car.
I went with AAA Auto Advantage for $900.00. It was an ucovered truck, but my car needs new paint anyways.

My brother just looked into transporting two Austin Healy Sprites and a Triumph Spitfire to Oklahoma, the price of $900.00 is good.
I just noticed your signiture says you want to put a 454 in your third gen. How long do you plan to be in So. Cal.? You can't get a 454 past smog her if your talking big block, if you are looking at a Motown small block from World Products, you can probably do it witrh a Super Ram, and a custom chip.

Thank you for the feedback !
To answer Russ-SoCal's question : Yea, I'm not sure anymore about that 454 idea. Just adding hi-flow cats wont enable it to pass smog testing I'm afraid. So I may have to give up on that whole idea, being in CA now
and thanks, Lon

For those who might be interested about the cost of car transport these days : the Dickson,TN to Santa Monica,CA trip on open carrier will cost me $895 with AAA and many other carriers charged the exact same rate. The highest was about $1100. A good site I found : www.movecars.com
