One Side of Motor Running Really Hot

One Side of Motor Running Really Hot
I have a 1991 Camaro Z28 with a 5.7 TPI engine. The mods to the engine are: bored .30 over, ported heads, 1.6 roller rockers, a hydraulic roller cam,
mini-ram intake , 58 mm holley throttle body, and headers. This is a new a motor and still not yet been broken in. To manage the motor I bought the EBL flash system. It seem like a good system, although I have been having trouble getting the car to idle but I not spent that much time playing with the EBL system to get it tuned right. This isn't my biggest problem though. When I was running the car at around 2500 rpm for a couple minutes to break in the cam on side of the motor got really hot. The headers of that side were glowing orange, once I saw this I shut off the car. After waiting a minute or so the cooler sides headers were already cool enough to touch, while the hotter sides headers I wouldn't dare to touch. I don't really know how hot the engine got on the hotter side cause the coolant temp sensor is on the cooler side and according to it the engine only got 175 F. Any ideas?

COOK DINNER ON THAT SIDE WHILE TAKING A FEW PRACTICE LAPS

It could be uneven fuel distribution.
Pull and read the plugs.
Also, with a propane wand check for vacuum leaks.

Happy Racing!

Re: One Side of Motor Running Really Hot
Sounds like one side of the engine is running lean. Could be bad fuel injectors on that side.

Re: One Side of Motor Running Really Hot
I thought breaking in an engine with headers was a big no-no?
Check out the plugs...see what they tell you

Re: One Side of Motor Running Really Hot
I had this happen to me with a regular tbi 305. One of my pushrods where bent "i believe intake" so it acumulated alot of unburnt fuel on that side and would get the exhaust glowing red hot on just that side."Wasnt bent enough to cause a miss, just enough to limit the intake on that cylander which would also make it run lean" ALSO what kind of exhaust are you using dual? y-pipe? Maybe its a slight clog. Are all 4 header tubes bright red or do u have 1 that sticks out.

anyway, one bank is prob to rich and the other is to lean, IDK but like said you need to pull the plugs and check them out.....maybe your headers shouldnt be glowing at all, only time i had a set glow was pulling a big hill with a 460 ford and about 26,000+ GVW
you should get an infrared thromo and see how hot each port is getting, that may help you find your problem faster

Re: One Side of Motor Running Really Hot
With some help from another member i figured out that one of the injector fuses was blown. The "fuel injector feed #1" fuse. I put a new fuse in and it blew right out again once i tried to start the car again. Any ideas?

Re: One Side of Motor Running Really Hot
I dont know if it could be anything other than a short to ground somewhere. I had one when I installed my new motor when a wire was pinched between the trans and engine...worth a look.
looks like its time to start tracing wires

Re: One Side of Motor Running Really Hot
im betting your problem is at the throttle body. check your injector wires closely. probably shorted against the body.

Re: One Side of Motor Running Really Hot
You have a dead short somewhere in that circuit for sure.Time to start tracing wires and look for any bare or pinched wires. I don't see how it could be in throttlebody though, as it merely directs metered air into a plenum that feeds all the cylinders.
