Starter clicks
I have a 86 camaro it would'nt start and just had a solenoid clicking sound.I had a rebuilt starter put in, started it went to take the old starter back for my deposit,I had them check it and it was'nt bad. I got my deposit back, and wonder why my solenoid was clicking and it would'nt start before? Now when I let it sit for a week and try to start it just clicks like before but if I keep trying say 3 times it starts.I turn it off and it starts right up.I start it 3 or 4 times and it's fine.Only when I let it sit it has a new battery and good cables.Ignition switch maybe? thanks

Re: Starter clicks
If it is clicking I believe power is getting to the starter. Maybe clean the grounds and ground for the battery where it bolts to the chassis.

Re: Starter clicks
Or your 'good' cables aren't. Not the ign switch. Is something draining the battery over time when it sits for a week?

Re: Starter clicks
I have brand new positive cables,I replaced the ground wire and sanded the spot where it goes to the fender wall. But it does drain the battery if it sit to long, the negative cable has'nt been replaced would that cause the drain in the battery and not enough power to start the car and just enough to click the solenoid? I think I'll just replace the negative cable. thanks

Re: Starter clicks
I would always have my friend turn the key and give it little taps with a small hammer or a wrench, if it breaks free you need your starter rebuilt

Re: Starter clicks
My first thread says I have put a new starter in already, and still have the same problem. What it was is the negative battery cable or I had the wire going to the fire wall too long,I shortened it up when I put in the new battery cable and starts every time no clicks!
