L98 GTA vs 3000GT

Well... who's gonna win? the L98 or the non-vr4 3000GT?

Thanks,
Bill

Well, i've only drag raced the car once, and i got a 15.7 cuz i didnt know what I was doing. then again, it was my first run.

The guy who owns the 3000 gt was jokingly ripping on my buddy with a 1987 trans am via facebook. My buddy has a carbed 305, which isn't too fast. But I figured I'd put the punk in his place.

There are two types of non-turbo V6 3000GT's.I think one is 160hp and the other is 220hp.Neither will beat a stock L98.

Even my stock intaked l98 (even though ive got a bunch of crap done..the mods just aren't justified by stock runners lol) beat down on a modded vr4 pretty badly.

I dont think you will have a problem what so ever

if you want a close race...race him in reverse heh

Wow, these cars must really suck! There are a few kids who drive them around here, but I've never seen one race. The car does seem very sporty, with only 2 seats and very aggressive styling. I honestly thought I might have had the loss here.

Thanks guys! Any tips on me not making an a$$ outta myself?

uhh first of all do your research or see one up close they have 4 seats believe it or not. and there were not 2 diff motors they on had the 3.0 V-6 fwd and the 3.0 V-6 twin turbo awd models. i think the non turbos were ALL 200 hpish and the twin turbo i think is somewhere up at about 300? sorry i forgot about that i was suppossed to get one so long ago i think thats right i could be wrong on the turbos numbers though.

yes the AWD turbo models are 300HP but they are pretty heavy cars. The non turbo is 200HP and they run in the 15's all day long.

I just checked on it and yes there was a 161hp 3.0 liter single overhead cam 97 3000GT.When they discontinued the dodge stealth in 96 they put these motors in for two years as the base motor. The 3.0 DOHC ranged form 218-222hp depending on the year model and the VR-4 was from 300-320hp depending on year model. The single overhead 3.0 is the same motor in the late 90's dodge avenger. My buddys dad owned one back in high school.First he had a stealth then he had a VR4.

I think someone needs to give you a few tips on launching. your GTA is good for mid 14's pretty easy. Mine ran a best of 14.25 with only subframe conectors, catback exhaust, and a wonder bar, plus tons of stereo weight. my guess is its your tires. if you want to beat this guy, practice your launch on a back road. with not so sticky tires, you will need to be easy on it off the line. if you just stomp it, your going to burn 'em, and loose valuble time.

Im running Toyo Proxes. The first time i raced, i didnt know what i was doing. I put on the brakes, then hit the gas, spun my back tires, then let off the brakes with the tree turned green. I spun all through first, and probably thru most of second.

I think what I'm supposed to do is stop on the brakes and bring my rpms up until my tires are almost breakling loose. Then, I let go of the brakes when the light turns green.

Wait, where the hell is Stu. He needs to come in here and give his "If the car also comes in a turbo model, the non-turbo is a piece of **** and slow as hell."

So, the quicker he gets here, the sooner you learn.

Well if the car was fast without a turbo, they wouldn't make a turbo model!

The SOHC motor was the same one that can be found in the Plymouth Acclaims/Dodge Spirits/Chrysler Lebarons.

It was the 6G72, the block was the same after that as far as i know. I think the main difference was the intake and slighty different work of the heads.

your close. you brake up to about 1500 to 2000 rpm, and you leave on the second yellow. if you try to leave on green, you'll leave late. I learned that the hard way, with a string of .9 reaction times. Now im down to consistant .2's not the greatest, but way better.
