Re: 89 RS vs 09 Ford Fusion

Depends on what edition fusion it is. The SE V6 creates about 220HP and 205 lb ft of torque.

Depends on how stock your V6 is. But i say its a possibility he's right.

I wouldn't bet any money I couldn't stand to lose on the proposition, even if I had a 305 TPI car

Now its an answer on how bad you will get beat, which version of the Fusion does he have. Depending on the model you could beat him with some add-ons. For instance the 4-banger model has around 160 hp, his car also weighs about 3,300 pounds so you guys are similar in race.

Start with weight reduction which means: no passengers, remove back seats, put t-tops in garage (if applicable), and make sure you race on about a quarter tank of gas maybe a little less. I would also yank out the spare tire while your at it and make sure your car has zero trash in it. EVERY OUNCE COUNTS in this situation. lol

Then move onto stuff to get better airflow and work on removing friction from the drivetrain.

Just a couple of hints.

All good advice... also, if you're going from a roll up your tire pressure as much as you safely can to decrease rolling resistance. If you're going from a dig adjust it so you get just a little tire squeal so you don't bog but not so much that you just waste energy on your launch. Also, practice launching and shifting a lot! Depending on how bad you want to win, a good hard launch with minimum wheelspin and quick powershifts on every gear change could do it.. your tranny and clutch wouldn't like it, but it would definitely help and could give you enough of an edge, especially if his car is a 4 banger and is fully optioned. If nothing else, the practice will make you a better driver and you'll still have your gear jamming skills to be proud of even if you don't have the faster car.

Awesoem. I'll check into that. And yes, his is indeed the 4-banger.

Re: 89 RS vs 09 Ford Fusion

My Caprice (DD) has the L99 (4.3L V8) and I used to run side by side when my Camaro had the stock L03. I screwed around with a Fusion in the Caprice one time and he just walked away. He has more hp and a lighter car... The Caprice is a tank, probably weighs over 4400lbs with me in it and has only 200hp. haha I wasn't too impressed with the Fusion though... Didn't rape me just walked away... Maybe that will shed some light on the V6 version of the Fusion... Not a race car or any meaning of the word, but not a slouch either...

Re: 89 RS vs 09 Ford Fusion

Had a Fusion v6 try me today on the way back from the OC Hotrod show. Needless to say i left him in the dust, but a 5.0 thirdgen may not. Not without mods.

For the record:
We did end up racing, just for fun. No bets or anything. The two of us where just sittin' arround and decide, "Hell, why not?"
I lost, but ea. it's alright.
