the governor generates a variable rate hydraulic signal to inform the valve body of road speed and introduce upshifts or ratio changes.without it modulator pressure directed to the shift valves and the influence of the spring tension of the shift valve springs on the shift valves which keep the valves held in the downshifted position against governer pressure will not allow upshifts.if the governor circuit is held wide open the signal will be so high that itll take off in third gear unless it is manually shifted.this is basically how a full manual valve body is made more or less.

how would I make it stay wide open?
And would this hurt the trans ?
this is not street driven

remove the governor ,plug the two holes that feed it oil and then crossdrill line pressure into the governer upshift circuit.it wont hurt the trans, and there is a few other things you can do to firm it up.

im describing the modifications done to the valve body .after identifying the correct passageways in the casting you drill thru the partition to connect them.you plug the oil sent to the governor to be governed and plug the governer upshift oil passage at the governor port exit so the line oil you crossdrilled intop the circuit doesnt bleed off.if you are not familiar with a transmission get a manual with the hydraulic diagrams or dont attempt it at all.

yes if the car takes off in 2nd gear with the selector in manual lo you will need a heavier 1/2 shift valve spring.
