How Do I Build a 700R4, STRONG
1st off i dont need to hear put a 5 or 6 speed or a TH350 in it
THANKS!!!
anyway, i have a 700r4 that was "built for the drag strip and to hold a big motor" ........ i was kickin, it would lay rubber out going into 2nd and all, shifted great and then one day it started to slip, TV cable is ok, fluid is bright red, not burnt, at proper level, not to hot also.......well ended up being the band, after only 8k .....$2k + down the drain
oh yea it seen the drag strip one time, and the motor is a mildly moddifed 305 TBI, with aprox 250hp (hey it beats the 170 stock number to hell and back )
anyway, since the "Pro" didnt do a good job tell me what i need to put in it to make it last, im happy with my valve body mods so im sticking with them, so like i said, please tell me what to put in it to make it last
THANKS!!!

Re: How Do I Build a 700R4, STRONG
I can already guess the answer will be buy one from someone that is on this board.
I did. It didn't last either.
Best of luck.

I'll be honest with you this is the way I am going to go. I have done a TON of searching and research on this and I can't find a better deal or product anywhere. I am going with Mad Dog Louie from Outlaw Transmission. These may not be what you need, but just give him a call!
These are his eBay links, but he does have a website as well. Call him!!!
OPTION 1:
This one is a level 2:

This one is a level 3:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-70...mZ290261668920
OPTION 2:
I have spent a lot of time talking with PATC Raptor Transmissions and others like them and they produce a phenomenal product as well. You can call them and they can guide you in purchasing a kit and then you need to find someone qualified to rebuild it.

You have a 305 TBI. A stock trans would be fine.
You don't need anything built STRONG...you just a competent builder.

Re: How Do I Build a 700R4, STRONG
What mods are done to that 305 tbi to get those numbers you are claiming?
A stock trans should live all day behind a mild 305tbi.

Re: How Do I Build a 700R4, STRONG
It could be a couple of things. First was your converter clutch coming on? If it wasn't, it can cause burned bands and 3-4 clutches. Could be just a faulty brake switch. Second did you flush out the old fluid from your cooler and lines? Next, the builder make not have checked band pin apply length properly. There are three different pin lengths to choose from and you need the special kent-moore tool to do so. There are many other posibilities, but those are most common. Also did you check line pressure, may have been low for any number of reasons. You shouldn't be burning this trans with those power levels. If you want to make it more durable next time you can apply more pressure to the band by getting performance servos. Alto also makes extra wide bands in their red eagle line, which you will have to use with a new reverse drum do to dishing from the old band. Hope this provides some insight.

Re: How Do I Build a 700R4, STRONG
stock trans is not good for a briggs and straton, it a sloopy shifting pile of trash
anyway, its the clutch pack i know that, i just want to know what to put in it this time so it will hold, im planing on putting about a 330 HP motor in it down the road............. i want it to be over kill, i do not want this to happen again...8k off of a build that should of been near bullet proof is a joke
list of mods is more than i want to type, if you need anymore proof on the HP of this 305, put a stock or close to stock 350 TPI up to it.......but thats off the subject of what i want done to the trans

Re: How Do I Build a 700R4, STRONG
i know that much............................i want to know what people are putting in a 700 to make it hold, yes i know my 305 TBI shouldnt break it, i do not need to hear that one more time.......
all i want to know is a good company to get my parts from to rebuild it, one that someone with a well better than stock motor has got and has had good luck with
all i want is a bad azz trans that will lay out rubber going into 2nd like mine does, and last over 40k.....not 8k, and hold at least 350hp all day and night

Re: How Do I Build a 700R4, STRONG
Absolutely 100% aware of that thread. That is the very thread that caused me to do more research. That thread is also 2+ years old. I realize people were still having issues in late 2007.
I personally know 7 people with the Maddog transmission level 2 and level 3. They have run them hard the past year and have had ZERO issues with their transmission.
I was concerned when i read that thread because of the major issues people were having. I spent a good month online and on the phone and I am very satisfied and feel confident about making my decision. Who knows maybe i will get F'd in the end.

Re: How Do I Build a 700R4, STRONG
Maddog almost sounds like an F-Body Motorsports situation... If you live close you get a great product and great customer service. If you buy online and live far away then......
Who knows. I have yet to buy one and I have spoke with him and discussed the very issues stated on TGO.

I'll be honest with you, I have not purchased one yet. Since everyone is still this concerned about his work I may very well rethink the whole thing. I was hoping the guy had changed based on the good reports from my friends and others over the past year. Hmmmm.......

How were you laying rubber into 2nd gear with 2.73's? I can't do that with my LT1 with 2.73's.

Go with probuilt end of story. I have beat the hell out of my tranny and still shifts perfect, and says it will last up to 550 horse or so

~10,000 miles. Never saw the track. Never saw anything other then radial tires.
Did have a 406 in front of it and it probably just won in the end.
It worked perfect right up until it went though.

Re: How Do I Build a 700R4, STRONG
yea well the guy who built mine has never had any problems like this, even with drag strip cars, we are thinking i got a defective part in it that only held up for that long...... but the damage has been done, im going to this other guy, and he guarantees it will hold up.... he said i could get the probuilt kit, but he said what he has is just as good, so here we go, another 700 that is built to handle gobs of power, lets see if it can hold 250hp longer that 8k

Re: How Do I Build a 700R4, STRONG
Since that thread is closed / I purchased mine from Outlaw in 2008 and got about 20 miles out of it. When my transmisson guy opened up the thing he musta laughed for 20 minutes. I would like to say it was a junk core but it was obviously worse. The trans had been pieced together with junkyard parts.
