That's normal. Overdrive is for cruising, not accelerating.

its not that its when you let all the way off the gas not even touching it it will shift in to o/d and as soon as you touch it any gas it will shift back to 3rd thats at any speed on the high way but plan on taking it out and putting my other one in its out of my truck i heard i just have to change the tail shaft and it would be good to go do you know if it would work and any good shift kits to put in

How did you adjust the tv cable. Did you use a gauge or just setting it as all the way open at wot. Is it a stock throttle body your using. as far as a good shift kit get one from pro-built.

What about those kits that make it do like vettes, and change the kickdown from 50% throttle to 85% throttle? Maybe our member from pro built automatics should know. I've never wanted to try these kits myself.

Re: need help with 700R4 trans
i know mine does the same way and i believe its pretty much the same car as yours but my gas pedal is EXTREMELY sensitve and if i hit a bump in the road it will drop o/d. so i try and be very gentle on the gas.

That depends. Changing the output shaft is only necessary if the truck was 4 wheel drive.
