does this exist?

Just wondering if anyone made an electronic water pump for a 3.1?
Would it be worth it or is the parasitic drag of the water pump next to nothing?
Just a thought I had. Having only alternator and power steering running off of a belt might be cool.

all in all it barely drags, if u wana reduce drag do like i did remove your ac and smog if your not worried about emissions,

Re: does this exist?

there are remote mount electric water pumps, that u can use but they are very expsensive.
its been a while since i looked into it but if memory serves me corectly a few years ago they ranged from 275$-500$

for a street car u dont need one , for something like my own car which sees 8,000 rpm there is an advantage, even on my car i didnt get one and have been running a modified stock water pump

Re: does this exist?

If you plan to drag race it and need the extra cooling in round robbin.. or for what dave said. Else then that for the cost to have one I dont see a point.

Re: does this exist?

Just in case nobody knew this a FWD 3500 water pump pulley will bolt onto a RWD pump and will underdrive it a bit. A 3100 or 3400 WP pulley is probably the same as a 3500 pulley too.

I decided to try it out and I haven't had any cooling issues; I have the fan set to come on around 205*F but the temp mostly stays below 200* except in traffic. I also have an underdrive crank pulley.

Re: does this exist?

OK cool . Thanks. I was just wondering. Being my dd I can't justify $500 maybe for something that wouldn't show much .
My air ( smog ) pump is gone. Barely use ac but because of an injury to my neck my internal temp regulator in my body is messed up. So in 90+° weather my body temp hits 102° so access is a must.

Re: does this exist?

Removing your AC does next to nothing anyways. By taking it off your basically just reducing the value of the car.
Will the dropped weight and less drag give you a 0.001 improvement in 1/4 mile times? yes, but does it matter?

You could always do something like this...

saw that on a SBC the other day, can't speak for reliability but it seemed to work ok.

My uncle has had one of those (or something very similar) on his 67 Camaro for years, never had a problem. It's driven to the track and raced every weekend on Sat and Sun so the car sees plenty of action. The key is to not use a lot of belt tension or it will burn up the electric motor.

A few of my racing friends have those set ups. They work pretty good.
