Re: I'm stumped
Give details about the engine and more on what happens after starting and the symptoms it shows when it dies. Not sure what the connection is with the alternator.

Okay I was driving down the highway and the motor shut off I let it sit a few hours and drove it home thinking the issue was vapor lock . went to drive to orilies the car shut off . I had to tow it home. I could keep the car running at 500 rpm with carb and choke . tested the fuel pressure at the fuel rail it was getting 45psi when I had it idling at 500 rpm . then I tested with a diod light to see if the injectors were getting proper signals. They were. I had recently replaced the alternator so I unplugged it to see what it would do and it idled perfect. In any gear. Now it is back to only running with carb and choke in the intake

But anyway... eventhough the injectors are testing good, the problem seems to lie in the fuel delivery.just because the injectors are ohming out properly, does not mean they are spraying properly.

Re: I'm stumped
You need to test the injector resistance to start with. They should all be close to 13ohms or so. If any aren't then youj need a new set. Also, have you checked/cleaned the idle air control valve etc. etc. By the way, when you get to the injectors to test them also check the fuel pressure relief valve vacuum line for any gas smell. If you smell gas in the line replace the FPR diaphragm. Probably should do it anyway if it's original.
