How much will the Accel/LPE Base help my car?

I decided to order one with the GP that is currently going, how much do you guys think this should help my car? It definetly feels like it needs more intake with my new cam. I don't have the money for heads and I think that with my ported plenum that the base should do more than the runners.

I asked the vendor specifically if the Accel unit will outflow the stock base. He told me the only stock bases he has seen flow as much as the Accel were ported then extrude honed. Extrude honing costs more than the Accel base GP price - these were done for a racer that had to use stock components. How much of a difference it will make depends on the extent of your mod's, but with the hot cam you want all the extra air flow you can get. Plus once the base is installed the upper induction is easy to upgrade later when money/time allows. I'm not trying to sell you on it - we have plenty of participants on the GP already. I'm just sharing what I've gathered from researching the merits of the aftermarket base intakes myself. Other members of thirdgen have also told me there is a noticeable difference upgrading from the stock intake. The Accel can be ported for even more airflow if needed - mine will be!

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Go for it Dan, replacing the intake manifold will help you for sure.

Does anyone else have anything to say, or any ET numbers before and after an intake swap?

I don't have any numbers, but a friend of mines dad is an engineer at SLP,and he thinks that the runners are the biggest restriction on the intake system.I saw an interesting post a couple of weeks ago where someone siamesed a stock base.I'm going to give that a try along with a set of aftermarket runners.

I would get it. (I Did) I am installing the LT4 Hotcam in my 87 Trans Am and wanted a better intake to handle the camshaft.

what is the price on the manifold GP.. and isnt it the edelbrock manifold ported and polished? thanks..
and i know for a fact that the manifold is the second most restrictive part of the LTR setup.. the runners being first.
and how long is the GP running for? thanks

No, its the TPIS intake that is ported and polished. The Edelbrock and Accel intakes are as cast.

The GP purchase price is $300. It regularly sells for $517 in Jegs.

300.00 is a great price for that manifold. I paid 500.00 for mine last year. Sorry.. I dont have any before and after results to share. My 406 is still on the stand.
