Re: ebay mini starters

I have one on my car, that ebay guy is a local speedshop. It turns over my 11:1 383 easily, havnt had a heat soak issue with it, you can position it a few ways, it came with alot of shims, for the block and the starter motor to big aluminum block.

Their ebay ads are all rediculous. they are a pretty decent company, they machine shop has some high prices. Ive bought a starter, a cheap Hei distributor, I used a differnt coil and control module on it. Ive even used there cheap stainless roller rockers, (comp knock offs) I havent any problems with anything.

Re: ebay mini starters

ive got a similar one, 3hp, spins my 408 like its nothing, only issues i had was that i had to shim the heck out of it to make it engage the flywheel, almost 3/8", and the screws that hold it together, that you loosen to rotate the housing, were sooo f-ing tight i could hardly get them off, had to use an impact driver. Other than that, no problems

Re: ebay mini starters

how much does your starter weigh? i think i'm gonna give 'em a try. i don't have a whole lot of cubes, but i'm about to bump the c/r to 11:1

Re: ebay mini starters

I bought one from a store called gearhead enterprises, or something it was like a year ago. It literally lasted about 5 starts then it started running on its own and it would not even let power reach anything but the solenoid. It was a procomp unit biggest piece of crap ever. Then I returned it and tried to get a replacement or a refund and they keep giving me the run around. I finally gave up. Havent bought another one yet.

I have about the same story with the one I got.

I found a junkyard LT1 starter on ebay or $20 and it's still kickin just fine.

Re: ebay mini starters

I've had experience with a LOT of starters.
By far the best performance I have seen from a starter has been from a CSI (now CSR) unit I bought in 1998 from Summit.
This one: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CSI-100U/
and as it says, is over $200.00

This year I have seen what looks to be the exact same starter for sale under the "Renegade" name for only $87.84 - part# REN.87001
I saw this listed in an engine builder's catalog called "Motorville" from Lexena KS.

That said, the rated starting capability and speed for any starter will go up significantly with the use of an ignition kill switch. This kills the spark for turning the engine easier during start. Once engine is up to speed, turn the spark back on. This is most useful for hot starting. Without a kill-switch I think any design of starter can have problems due to overload or kickback.

The starter I bought mentioned above weighs 6 lbs, and is fully clockable.
I would definitely buy this model again.

The guy with the last name White sells durable units. I have plenty of friends using them. No complaints.

Re: ebay mini starters

I don't think that's the brand I got, but I did use a cheapy ebay mini starter....lasted about two weeks then I thru it in the trash. If it's cheap price, then it's probably cheap product. Put a new stock starter on, no problems since.
