Leave the base timing at 6 or 8 and compensate for it in the ecm.
Then u need to do track time and dyno time to find out what your combo likes.
Heads and combustion chamber design to far more to influence timing than the intake(within reason)
later

i'm running 12* advanced right now, and I think I gotta go more with this new cam....my mechanic said I might be running upwards of almost 20 once i get the 02 sensor in and evyerhting tuned right...its just one of those things you gotta play with....he said the best way to set it is, turn it till you get some popping and then back it off a couple degrees, and plug the ecm back in....then it keeps you on the edge of performance...
well maybe it did, but before i had the base timing at 6* and it ran okay, then we disconnected the ecm timing again and brought it to like 12 or so advanced, and it runs awesome with the base timing at that....so i'm just saying playing with the timing makes a huge difference...

I have to run my timing at 0* to aviod detonation. The lack of an EGR and all the advance the hypertech chip throws at it are the reason. I should get a custom chip so I can set it at 6*.
