LT1 intake with stock throttle cable?

i was reading on LT1 intake.com that there was a part where he mentioned that he took out "over an inch of the throttle cable, and braze it back together"...

is this a must for all year 3rd gens? anyone with info?

Believe that is true if you use the stock LT1 bracket, previous owner of my car made his own bracket along with the LT1 intake but unfortunetly did not get dist hole right and kept eating dist gears, I switched to a HSR but may try the LT1 intake in my 73 vet if I can get teh dist hole right.

If you do not get the distributor hole right the distributor won't go in, it will not eat gears. the distributor is located by a precise bore in the block, not the intake.

The intake does set the height of the distributor though so your spacer may have been wrong.

I think I used a throttle cable off of a 4th gen, and all it needed was a zip tie to space the ball out a little where it links to the pedal.

I "did" replace it with a non stock throttle cable. I "think" it was from a 4th gen, because they are more or less the same from the firewall back and it would make sense. It's been 7 or 8 years since I did this, so working off of poor memory. Here's a pic, I would go buy one ($15-20 new) and see if it fits. The cable is laying over the LH strut mount.

It really depends on what TB you use. In 3rd gens there were 2 versions, an early one and a late style. I had the early style using an eyelet on the throttle cable and it was too long. The late style throttle cable has what I believe is a solid barrel on the end and the TB uses different linkage.

One option one customer did is documented here:

Must have been the height then because it ate the bronze gear the PO had on the dist, then it ate a GM melonized gear I put on it. I did noticed the gears were wore on the upper 3/4 with more teeth left on the lower 1/4, first gear got ate clean through and the dist stopped spinning. Sounds like I might be able to salvage the LT1 set up with some height adjustment.

BTW I switched to a HSR and new GM gear with no problems now.
