HSR milling question
Anybody ever mill the top of the lower intake for clearance with a StealthRam? I saw what JoBy did with the cut & weld to clear his 'Vette hood, but I don't want the plenum welded down and I don't need that much room anyway. So does anyone forsee any problems with trimming 3/8" or so off the top of the runners?
The situation is this: I swapped the 355 and 6-speed from my beat-up RS into a clean IROC-Z chassis, and went from a carb to the HSR at the same time. I had previously made all the measurements for clearance on the RS and had plenty of room (or so I thought.) While the engine was out I decided to go ahead and replace the motor mounts, and opted for poly instead of rubber. It never occurred to me that the new poly mounts would make the engine sit significantly higher than the old rubber ones. Now the hood on the IROC will latch, but the top of the throttlebody rubs the underside of the hood, even with the bracing notched out. I don't need much room, just enough for the TB not to hit the underside of the IROC louver indentation. So what do you guys think?

I think you could take 3.8" off but not much more, the fuel rail mount pads are down @ 3/4" if I recall.
Make sure your thermo housing will clear, or else you will need to cut and re weld it.

I milled the top of one for someone before so it cleared under a ta w/o havin to cut the hood supports.
took a little off the bottoom and all off the top as seen here..

Hey LD would you be interested in doing something from scratch for tops to resale? I could do complete sheetmetal ones.

Also be aware that for some reason, when I milled off the fins on the top to flush, my plenum resonates and amkes a weird sound!

I was going to suggest taking a little of the bottom manifold and some off the plenum side where they meet. Looks like someone has already done it.
LD85 looks like you now have first hand knowledge of harmonics. That is why some materials don't work out so well for intake manifolds. If not thick or strong enough they pulsate.

Car: a car being parted out
Engine: blown up
Transmission: in peices
What I did to mine to clear with no issues was this.
I had the top of the base (where air box mounts) milled down about 3/8".
After that the hood closed fine and had no issues after that.
If you want pics, your about 6 months too late. I posted them some time ago when I was parting out the car over the summer.

Was thinking of doing that to mine just for cosmetics but now I don't think I want to do that.

Take some playdough or silly putty and put it on top of the plenum.
Then close the hood some to find out where the interference is.
In retrospect, I think that milling an angle on the plenum so the front was down thin, but it got taller towards the rear, this would eliminate the resonance, I am pretty sure of this.
