Front Marker Light Dilemma

I hope someone can help me!!! I was admiring my daytime running light mod on my car when I started to realize that my front marker light lenses really look like crap. (The ones with the turn signals in it) Does anyone know of a place to order either new OEM type lights or maybe even something with a glass lens that would work?

Thanks

and please explain this day time running lamp mod i love the way how the newer GM T/A's and Camaro's have those bright orange turn signals, i think it looks awesome. I know turning on the parking lights accomplishes this but i don't want the taillights on

I dont know Kandi, I used compound on mine, and simple green on the insides. And they look pretty damn new. However I did compound then buff them about 50 times over a 3 hours period, but hell they look good....real good.

I found this a while back and decided to give it a try. I am using a similar setup except my relays are located under the dash instead of the bumper (a bit more complicated requiring running two new extra wires) and I have installed a 3rd relay to make my setup automatic.

I love my brand new ones. Cost me too much, but it was worth every penny.

Is it really worth all the time and effort to buff them 50,000 time.

Or pay $70 for some new ones????

That's about what I was thinking when I said something with clear lenses. What did you use to make them out of???

Hmmmm 70 bucks for new ones or 5 bucks for a compound and a few buffs while watching TV at night? I'd have to say 5 bucks and a few buffs there KJ...but eh that's just me.

yeah.......they won't look half as good but at least you'll save some money and make them look better than they are.

i have no problem with saving money; trying something like that on plastic that doesn't get as much abuse like tailights or side markers is one thing....but you'll never ever get a set that has a good amount of mileage to look like new unless you buy new ones.

if it works for you to polish them then go for it, if you want it to look good there's only one "real" option....no point in getting someone's hope up thinking they can make an abused set look like new.

I agree with what's been said here, but what causes them to go bad like that in the first place? Is it just being kept out in the weather, or is it from driving? It's easy to say replace them for $70, but how long will they last?

Moisture! I believe there is a tech article on this board to fix the problem. I could be mistaken though. I got mine through GM too, they were around $35 as well.

You know what would be cool? If you paint them with some kinda tint that is the same color as your car. That or black.

hey redbird........look up at Mark A Shields.

moisture is the worst thing with anything plastic light a light housing.........the reason isn't the moisture itself, but when it's left inside for extended periods it will cause a yellowish buildup.

the reason the front is somewhat easy to polish is over the years road debri and plain chemicals in the air embed themselves into the plastic causing it to distort.......when you use a polish your actually taking a fine layer off removing some stuff; the more you polish the more you remove naturally causing it to clear up.

you could always try as a last ditch effort to separate the front piece and the polish as that would be your best bet; but to say how well you'll get it to seal or last is another story.

all the time, product, etc you'll spend to get it to look like new really isn't worth it to most if you want it to look it's best.

once you get new ones they are really easy to maintain by keeping up on polish........i keep the moisture out by using a electric leafblowr or air compressor to blow out any excess after i wash the car. a bit extreme, but besides leaving it alone or taking them out this is the only way to completely dry them out.....the ones in my pic are 3 years old and they look the same the day i bought them so i'm not telling anyone what to do or how they should do things.........but it definately works for me.
