I have a Black 1991 Z28 5.7 (L98).......everybody loves it.....and it looks sooooo mean.....especially with the ASCD SS hood.
if you like the shades of red i would stick with a similar red color; it will get more attention, shows the car off in better detail, and will be cheaper to paint. not to mention if you color is close to stock you won't have to pull the engine in order to make it look professional.
nothing nicer than a red 91-92 although i also love the black ones; 10/10 red gets more attention though.

Go to the dealership, scratch one, take the paint chip to a paint shop and have them color match a mix for you

The dealership should have paint codes for their cars, can't you just ask them???
considering it's a custom tri-stage you can't just scratch it and have them match it. it's not that simple. although, with the right knowledge you could come real close.
typically cars like the 50th make you have to prove you own the car in question to release the color to keep it from being common. hense the nice pricetag that they ask for them to keep it limited. just look at the early color changing mustangs and 4thgen f-bodys.
not to say it can't be done, you should try it if your interested; but i doubt you'll have any luck.
when i was looking for a color i fell in love with steve saleen's candy red, named after his wife "liz stick red"; to this date it's the best candy red i've seen but impossible to get. 7,000 option on any saleen car and 12,000 option on their explorer just to keep people from using it.
now if you could find someone who owns a car with the type of color you want you could use their info; but then their car will go on record as "damaged". it's a no win situation.
on a serious note though, you can take a base metallic color and throw a nice pearl over the car for a fraction of a truly custom paintjob and have a really sharp yet resellable color!
good luck with your choices as there are many.

I love black, it looks the sweetest when clean but its a pain in the *** to keep it that way. But make sure you're totally sure you want whatever color you decide on, cause you have to drive it.

Is there as such thing as candy black? It can be done, cant it? I'm not an expert but candy paint is just regular paint followed by clearcoat, then another small coat of regular color, and finished off with more clear. Am I right? I wonder how candy black would look if it's possible. Once again I'm not an expert with paint. When I get my car repainted I think I want black again but I want it to stand out. It has to be either REALLY shiny or it has to have some sort of red pearl or something it it.
My choices for your car, in no particular order:
BLACK (looks so good but SO hard to keep looking good)
YELLOW with BLACK Heritage stripes
DARK BLUE (only seen 1 in my whole life)
maybe HUGGER ORANGE or SUNSET ORANGE METALLIC
SILVER oh yeah
maybe with BLACK Heritage stripes
Or try something unique, go to a paint shop or some shows, blend some colors together and get something nobody else has!!

yeah, you could do a candy black if you wanted.......
i'd probably start off with a high metallic silver base or similar color and apply a clear black. might look like translucent black chrome........??
i've seen many pearls applied over black that can also give off some wicked combinations. black with a brandywine clear looks really good.
it's all about imagination.......the lovely thing about being able to paint the car what you want.
price only comes into consideration with each layer you decide to paint to add effect. you mess up and you have to start all over again; that's why something like a candy which can be as little as 3 colors or even as high as 5 or 6 can be extremely expensive.
just as an example of price differenceslets say the car is completely perfect body wise.
2-2500 for a solid color, add 500-700 for a pearl layer, add another 2,-7,000 for a candy. it adds up fast.
the orange on the prototype is a tri-stage; this could be easily done a number of ways; the cheapest and best way i would do to mimick and keep prices down would be to go with a nice orange of your choice and throw a gold pearl over it or there is always the lamborghini orange that you can get premixed. looks identical but again a tri-stage..
the other thing you must take into consideration is repairs. pearls, candies, custom colors are all a pain to maintain if you drive the car at all. try to stay with a color that is somewhat easy to touch up and if for some awful reason there were an accident you could repaint with little difference.
by the way the SS hood looks great, if i ever had to replace my hood that would be my first choice.

they have a color, i can't think of the name now but it will come; where there is not color in it at all it's just pure metallic. when sprayed it is the brightest metallic silver i've ever seen. it would look really sharp as well, just stay out of the sunlight!
here's a small pic of the color used on a blazer.
alright, i just realized this picture does no justice whatsoever. i need a digital camera.
i'll leave it up though just because it's cool and it shows 6 different color variations.

how would you have a pearl red? are you talking pearling a red or using a red pearl?
i've seen red pearl over black which is very sweet; but i can't picturing it going with lighter colors as it brings a pink hue to it.
another sweet combination is black with a single coat of chromeillusion.
ahh the combinations are endless......

just an FYI, it is hard to change to color of a car and do it good, you need to paint everything, there is even body color on your floor and behind your dash, windshield, door panels...everywhere, it would look bad if you have old color showing through....and do it right, you would have to strip the car down completly...engine bay and so forth....i say stick with red...a different shade, or mettalic or pearl or something but say red it will be much cheaper and look better....i wanted to change my car to gun metal gray but too much work.

Red - I love red cars. This may seem too simple, but I really liked the red on my '79 T/A. Can't remember the paint code or what it was called, but it was the color of a ripe tomato - not red, not orange. And it should be readily available.

it probably isn't pearl.......more or less a heavy metallic red.
the two can be similar yet are completely different. also, pearl really doesn't have a shine, in fact in most cases it can dull a color if you will. most painters will try to counteract with a bright base or a metallic combo..
go with metal flake....amusement parks have been using it for years. :lala:

im gonna have to throw a vote up for red,but not plain red.the type of sweet *** red that kandied has on his Z28,or even with the stock red that came on 91-92 camaros.maybe add a little more metallic flake to it or some pearl and top it off with a few good coats of clear.then when its all set and cured, give it a few good coats of Zaino and you will be lovin life.personally,i think black is overrated.yes it does look good when its clean, but as stated before it is a beotch to keep clean, and i really dont think it portrays the 3rd gen 'maros gorgeous lines as well as a nice deep red metallic or even a nice light blue, like that found on the Irocs.look into that as a possibility also.

Re: what color should i paint my red 1991 z28 camaro?
There were NO yellow Camaros in 1991, because of gen and factory changes, so if you're going for show car, can't be yellow; but if you're going for unique, use yellow paint from 2013 Camaro or 1991 Corvette.
Or Porsche red. (That'll set you back a bundle!)
