turning to the dark side

i hate to say it, but im pretty sure i am getting rid of my camaro this coming sping. i am taking a loan out for 6 grand, hopefully will get at least 4 grand for my camaro, and i think im gonna buy a 2g talon or eclipse. i know alot of you might think it is a dumb idea, as usually i would to. i just cant stand getting 15mpg and not being able to beat most stock 2g dms turbos. anyone have any reasons why i shouldnt do this?

Get an L98 IROC or Z and enjoy better mpg, though that TBI should get better than 15mpg, have you done a tune up?

Or heck, you if you have a budget of $10k or so, then ummm, TTA cough cough, mid 13s and good mpg I would assume, very easily can be made a 12 sec car.

well i would go with a vette, but insurance would kill me. the main reason why i want a dsm and not another fbody is because i live in michigan, and of course we get tons of snow here and i hate having to put my car away every winter, basically i just want a year round car

They are pretty nice cars, I was thinking of getting one as a second car but I am not sure if I could comfortabley drive one because im 6' 5", and I don't want to have to deal with working on those suckers, Ive done work on the mazda we have and its got an ok sized engine compartment and its still a dog to do anything.

Well you do whatever makes you happy, but the problem is your engine. The L03 is not a very powerfull motor. Thats probably why you're loosing to the stock 2g dsm's. I've raced those before in my rs with a L03 and lost (with 4 other ppl in the car but lost nonetheless). Find a L98 from the yards and do the swap. I found a L98 with 65k miles for $700. I'll be doing my swap pretty soon here. But hey having a year-round car is a good thing too. I'm not familiar with having to store my car for the winter so I dont know what its like. It makes sense.

the import is hard to work on takes more money to go faster then it would take a f-body. Headers on a 3rd gen $300 25-35 hp headers on a import like 300 for 1-5 hp. Dont quote me on that thats just what ive seen. But do whatever you want and have fun with it.

on you on crack? do you know how easy it is to go real fast with a turbo setup. plus those turbo cars respond well. plus gas mileage is better. i say sell your car and take your time finding a real nice AWD turbo DSM

that's a bit of an over estimate there for headers on a stock SBC.

dude why dont you just keep your camaro, take a loan out for 3-4 grand if you can afford it,and buy an AWD DSM?i bought mine for 2100.had 102xxx on it,but its still going good.all ive had to do with it so far is replace a heater hose, plugs, wires, and the thermo housing gasket.both cake jobs.that way you can have two fun *** cars to mess around with, and still have one of those for a phatty dope winter car.thats what i did!!

I got a suggestion - Buy a Merkur

You can get pretty nice ones for under 2 grand. That leaves you another 8 g's for mods. Intercool it, turn up the boost, get some nice 17s or 18s and I bet you'll still have a few g's left over to do a Cosworth AWD conversion for those Michigan winters. Now, I may be a little biased, but you can easily get 12's out of these cars with cheap mods and still pull over 30 mpg. Plus, since everyone on here insists on being "different", you'll fit that too. Just a thought.
