OPPS! left the tops at home

How many of you have gone out on a nice wind in your hair trip to have it start raining and you left your tops at home, or are in a place that you cant stop and put them in? I had that experinace a few minutes ago, nice 70 degree night, i put the tops in the bag and went for a ride, bout 45 minutes into my trip it starts POURING and since im on 2 lane country roads i cant do anything about it but drive. Good thing it stoped after about 5 minutes or i woulda got pretty wet. Share your experiances

I've done that a few times. Once I was on the freeway, but i was goin fast enough to where the water wasnt really getting in. The second time i was on my way to work and it started raining at a stoplight. I was in the left turn lane and the intersection was pretty busy so i just drove it to work. Luckily i was only like 10 min away. I swear it was clear and sunny when I left my house, then some rain cloud just popped out of nowhere.

The first time was about 10 years ago i was cruising downtown st.paul in my 83 Trans am (about 45 minutes at the time from home) and got caught in the rain and i didn't bring the tops with me (oops)me and my buddy had to spend 1 1/2 hours under a gas station fill up area.
Second time i was cruising down the freeway last summer when out of nowhere (and still sunny) it starts pouring i had to pull under a over pass and put the tops on.

Yep one night last summer I'm heading down the parkway westbound with the tops off. It starts raining, so I get off at a cloverleaf ramp so I can turn around and go east bound. I drive fast as I can until I get to where its not raining yet. Get off at the next exit, and put the tops back on.

See, a Camaro is faster than mother nature!

its better to have a convertible.

no losing Ttop worries.... no leaks.... and you dont have a stupid roof over your head when its nice out.

did i mention the zero blind spot? the no problem seeing behind you?

the fact that girls find verts sexy?

the unlimited headroom for both front and rear passengers?

the fact that i can have my entire roof up faster then you can get to your Ttop bag?

did i mention that verts dont leak like ttop cars do?
or crack the roof like the sheetmetal over ttop hole..., errrr, i mean "hardtop" cars do?

Where Im from, 80 degree summer nights are common at which point T-Tops and convertibles rule the land.

I havent gone anywhere without them and it rained, but....

About 5 years ago, when I had my TransAm, I left it at my girlfriend's house while we went to a soccer game in Cleveland (about an hour and a half away) for the day, and somehow I forgot to put the T's in before we left. Ended up raining all day.

When we got back, there was about an inch of water on the floor, and it had all soaked into the carpet and seats. Ohhh man, I had to let it air out in the garage forEVER before it finally dried up and quit smelling like mildew. Never done it since.

there are boat products you can use to speed it up and make it not smell like mildew.

I had that happen once in the summer... me and my cousin went for a nice summer cruise, then I dropped him off at his place and headed for home...a few minutes after I left his place, it slowly started raining, so I just put it to the wood to get home... got home, got the tops on just before it REALLY started pouring... i got kinda lucky that day, lol.

I got no leaks, and I prefer a roof over my head. That’s why I live in a house and not a cube missing a top.

Blind spot on the hardtop car isn’t that bad at all. Seeing behind me? I have a mirror for that. Don’t tell me you turn around to glance behind ya?

CORRECT, because they’re girly cars. Every teen girl wants a vert.

5’11” – and I don’t know any basketball players.

Leak, my sheetmetal doesn’t leak. Crack, well I don’t think its cracked.

Twas a beautiful 80 degree day... cept I had to go to work. I took the t-tops off and enjoyed my ride to work, where I parked in the back of the lot. I was hanging outside with a friend (wo had the windows down in his Beretta) when it just started pouring. Neither of us hesitated an instant and started sprinting to our respective cars. Granted mine was further awya and more involved in preping it for the rain, but I was there dman fast. Put the t-tops back on hastily, then secured them in place. I then walked back to work happy, knowing that my car was saved from being flooded.

Easy for the 'vert people to say. Wish I had one, but since I dont, Ttops will suffice.

i dont have any leaks either. and i have the OPTION of roof or no roof...

and it would KICKASS to have a house that has a folding or sliding roof... my parents house has a lil garden thing in the center.. its like a lil room surrounded by big glass windows on all 4 sides. theres no roof over it... its coo.

yea... riiight. the blind spot is a bigass PITA right where the sail panel is... esp when you approch a intersection at less then a 90* angle....... and ive owned a few 3rdgen coupes, so you cant convince me otherwise.. perhaps you're just so used to it, that you dont even notice it anymore.
yea i have mirrors, and i use them.... but i also turn my head... its more out of habit because i ride motorcycles, but its also a good habit... i wish everyone would just take a glance before they changed lanes... would stop alot of accidents...

and i want every teen girl.. whats yer point? you know, more girls drive the coupes then the verts......... and lets see... good looking, fun to drive, easy to work on, cheap parts... and now it attracts young girls!? it just keeps getting better!

so by your logic, what does your coupe attract? guys? o_O

go sit in the backseat. the arch makes it suck. you cant sit up, and you cant slouch because of the seat infront of you... a vert solves that prob....... or atleast i wouldnt hit my head on the roof.
also, unlimited headroom is welcome when you have the aformentioned young girls and uhh.. i shouldnt need more detail.

edit: FYI, im 6'1".. but even when i was 5'11" in high school, i would hit my head if i had to ride in the back of a fbody coupe.

that thin piece of useless sheetmetal over your head that does nothing for the structural integrity of the car is the roof. its exactly like the TTop roof, but instead of removeable panels, you have a thin piece of non removable sheetmetal.

and even ttop owners will tell you.. TTop bags suck... the 4thgen guys have it made with the plastic well mount dookicky thing. (technical term)

they generally dont leak.... they just crack from the stress (somtimes not visable from the outside) and they can catch and trap water... that is what causes rust.. if left unchecked, the rust can cause leaks.
the reason for this is that you have the same structure under the thin sheetmetal as the ttop cars... but the sheetmetal cant move around the same way as the tops do when the car flexes.. so it puts a good amount of stress on thoes lil points right above the corner of the door frame.

took me months and months of dedicated searching to just find this car...
you can do the same thing, it just takes time to find one...

The t-tops on my 95 rock, would never trade them. I don't mind the hardtop on the 91 though.

I'd love to own a 'vert.
