Is there a point to 100$+ wax?
All the waxes people seem to use run below 20$.
I've seen Pinnacle Souveran for 70$, Zymol Concours for 150$ as well as a couple other brands of Carnauba based waxes all retailing quite high. Is there a point to using a wax like that? Is the performance any better or is the price not justifiable considering that a 20$ wax will do pretty much the same thing.
Just wondering, cause there are dozens of threads about wax, but no one had anything to say about the expensive ones (for good reason I guess 70$+ for wax is kinda steep)

Here is the shine on my dads '78 T/A with $100 Zaino Bros wax. Its like a mirror. That's factory 27 year old paint.
The factory paint on the hood of my '84 T/A was like sand paper and that wax gave it a mirror shine.

Without a direct side by side comparison all said testimony is heresay and flim-flam. I think it is one of those things where an auto body shop or such would find some uncle money bags (who doesn't know a whole lot about wax ) and tell him it is the end all magic wax. Rich guy spends money and both get fat, dumb and happy.

I use Zaino on my 4th gens, and I am thrilled with it.
I have spent many hours of my life detailing my cars, and am very happy w/ the results I get from Zaino.

Not if you're happy with whatever you are currently using. If you like what you use now, then continue to use it.
I'm a strict Zaino used on my TA. I just like how the car looks when I use it in comparison to any of the off the shelf brands.
But most people who try a higher end polish typically end up staying with them and never go back to the cheaper ones.

You need to use so little Zaino to get great results it's not worth it.
I've never used anything that comes off easier then it does. It's not like it's some thick azz Turtle wax or something.

And although it may seem expensive at first. I do alot of car shows and polish my car almost weekly from May to Sept. The kit usually lasts me 1.5 years.

Zaino doesn't even seem that expensive, its like 15$ a bottle of Z2. You guys are talking about the "complete" Zaino kit with the cleaners and stuff for 100$ right?
Zymols Concour Carnauba is 150$ for 8oz.
Pinnacle Carnauba is 70$ for 8oz.
Thats just for the wax, not counting any other stuff for prep and detailing after.

For everyone looking for that killer shine, in my opinion, it is 90% your paint job, and 10% the detaling products you use on it.

I don't compeltely agree. No it's not going to polish a turd into a diamond. But I've seen marked improvement on factory finishes by using Zaino over a Meguires or Mothers polish. And the factory doesn't tend to put the best paint job on cars.

I agree, I have switched between many products and some seemed to give me a slighty better shine. I am just trying to say there is no way with just a detailing product your going to make your paint 5 times better or anything.
If the paint has not been kept up with (swirls, oxidation..etc), then I do believe there is a chance you can turn that turd into a diamond with the right products.

But if you take paint that is in good condition, all things being equal, will something like Zymols Concours (150$) give you a noticeably better look than say a 20$ bottle of Meguiars.
As Karps mentioned above, people who use high end products tend to stay with the high end product. But is that because they have convinced themselves that their more expensive product must be better just because they spent so much money, or is the performance really better.
