Your car is nice, your work is nice, and you have better condition project cars then almost every other person on this forum, Dont let it get to you that people with stock 305's and old peeling paint, are giving you crap about calling it a resto, they are just jellous, and in my eyes anything can be a resto.

Nick,
First, Im sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my grandfather last september, so I can sympathize.
Secondly, I see what the other guys are saying, but only because the Shop that painted my Purple car, did what you are doing to the Blue iroc. I to this day, am still pissed about the quality of the job. HOWEVER, This is your car, it looks damn good how youve done it in the photos... if its what you want to do, or is what you want your sto be done like, then so be it.. keep up the good work. ME personally, maybe i would do it that way maybe not.. I cant say, cause i dont know how to paint.
i guess what im saying is that its your car, it looks good from what i can see.. keep it up and keep us updated with photos and posts..
what makes Car customizing so great is that no one does it the same way, why? cause everyone has different tastes. Now if we can just not be mean to each other because of htose tastes, we'd be doinggood.

You are a shining example of why thirdgenners have the reputation that they do. While some of the people arguing with us about the quality of the work at least had a somewhat intelligent opinion to offer in to the conversation, you did nothing but prove that there is at least ONE more thirdgen owner who not only isnt very intelligent, but who cannot spell either.
Take a shower. Paint your car (properly). Go back to high school. And be quiet.
Thanks.

HAHA this is so funny, especially cause my car isnt stock. This forum is a joke, while some people are here to share advice and their project, we have morons who are simply here to bash and ask what muffler is the loudest.
So why doesnt everyone take one step back from the keyboard, keep stupid bashing comments to our self's. opinions should be welcome, but bashing shouldnt.

The blue Iroc looks good in pictures.... I'd prefer you used the term "fixed" instead of "restored". Your dad repainted it and some guy fixed the drivers seat. Did he happen to work at a collision shop or nationwide chain of automobile paint shops, at some time in his life? His Iroc would make a nice beater to replace my 99 TA, what kind of miles are on that car?

ps. befour you point this out i cant spell and never claimed to be the smartest person here.
Come on guys, cant we all just get along?
He never said he was doing the highest quality work in the world. He said his dad and him were doing the work themselves, which frankly I can give them credit for. Not everyone has the knowhow or time, space etc... to do it themselves.
I dont want anyone to stop posting what they got going on just because there afraid someone is going to start bashing them.
I like seeing pics of peoples projects for good, bad or whatever.

I don't care how nice it may look in pics when it's done... but with the shortcuts taken (which are nothing other than laziness, and possibly 2-3 hours worth of time in disassembly and prep), there is no way in hell that it's an $8,000-$8,500 level "restored" car. And for a car you think "is worth" $8,000-$8,500, at last take a little time in disassembly, and freakin' splurge on a set of *new* GM door decals, and don't friggin' tape around them and shoot the car. The majority of issues brought up, have absolutely nothing to do with his paint spraying or buffing abilities... it's all in the prep for the paint. End of story.

Can you call it whatever you want? Sure. Hey, its your car, its your right. But everyone else here will just continue to give you crap for it, because youre in the wrong.

Ehhh, I guess if you're gonna get your toes stepped on for me calling it a resto, then so be it. This car is a do-it-at-home, garage resto, I never claimed it was going to be perfect. Sure there will be flaws, sure we're not the best painters in the world, sure there might be a few imperfections in the paint, but you know what. The car was never perfect from the beginning, look at the quality of the cars when they were brand new. They had recalls for paint only a few years after they came off the assembly line. Look at NEW GM cars, they have orange peel all over them. There's no such thing as a perfect car.
This one is going to be as close to perfect as we can possibly get, doing it all ourselves in our garage. If this offends anyone, please feel free to not post in this thread anymore. We are restoring it to like-new specs, it is going to drive and look like it did in 1990, did we take some shortcuts? Sure, ya we did. Did GM take a few shortcuts when they made these cars brand new? You bet they did.
The last 2 pages of this thread have really changed my mind about the whole 3rd gen community. Here I was thinking we are like a band of brothers, standing up as the underdog against all the cocky 4th gen guys, most of which their parents bought them their cars when they were 16. I think I made an assumption somewhere along the way, because half of what I see here is arguing and bitterness towards ME who is sitting here trying to bring an old car back from a state of nastiness and shame. I don't really care to share this project with you all anymore. If anyone cares enough to want to know how it's doing and how it finishes, catch me on AOL or send me a PM. As far as I'm concerned, this thread is dead, and there won't be another one concerning this car again. I'll share my excitement and progress somewhere else.

I don't believe that anyone here ever said that they were not interested in seeing the outcome...
The fact is, it's your car, and you can do with it whatever you want.
I'm glad to see someone trying to bring a car back to it's prior glory... and the fact that you are doing it by yourself, is very commendable....
The crux here is, don't expect $8,000-$8,500, if you've taken the shortcuts, and don't act as if it "makes no difference" - because for those that do take every step "above and beyond", there is a clear difference. The car is a nice driver... and a decent lookin' car... If you keep it, I'm sure you'll see a lot of enjoyment with it. But, if you sell it, don't be surprised when you don't get what you're looking for out of it.
I'm sure everyone is curious to see exactly how it turns out, and I don't think anyone meant to disrespect you in any way... but call it as it is.. that's all.
Good luck with the rest of the project. I personally (and I'm sure many others) would like to see some further pictures, and the finished product.

I'll send you a PM when it's done with pictures. There's too many jerkoffs roaming around, trying to press hard their opinions, and I don't really care to listen to it anymore.

Guys, lay off Nick(BlueZee). Nick is an excellent guy, very level-headed and very knowledgeable. There are a few 3rd Gen questions I don't even know here and there and Nick is the guy I go to for answers. People always seem to try to pin him for one thing or another, "It's still only a 305.", "His vert is nothing more than a set of chrome wheels.", etc, just because he doesn't come back at ya doesn't mean he should be attacked, he's a great guy who knows his role, that's why he's not on here talking up his cars or talking down on your cars.
He is doing more to restore this car and did more on the maroon Iroc than many of you will ever do on your cars, yet your saying he's over-exaggerating the amount of work he has to do on the blue IROC. This is more of a 'resto' job than many people have done resto's and claim they rebuilt their whole Camaro. Sure these Camaro's aren't 40 years old so they can't be restored like a '69 Chevelle, but a lot of work still goes into making this Camaro like an original car.

First off, I am sorry to hear about your grandfather. Everything happens way too quickly.
I have to agree with 92RS. I loved the work on the maroon iroc and def. should have snatched it but I couldnt come up with the money. As for the blue car, I know exactly where your coming from. As you know, our iroc vert. has been in pieces for years as we are repainting it. We decided to take off all the panels and gfx and such and we are realizing we got way over our heads. I mean, we still have to find an interior, replace the floors, and door hinges and now we are thinking about dropping an lt1 in when thats all done. The blue car looks great from your last pics. No matter what anyone says, do it your way. It's your car and build it your way. Keep up the good work.
Ryan

There's nothing wroing with it unless you pass it off as a completely restored car to someone that wants to pay for a "rotisserie restoration".
To call it a restoration of that caliber to a buyer to get the car to sell in that range is pretty shady. But if it's just you wanting to make the car look and drive nice that's fine. Just dont misrepresent it, and there's no harm done.

I'd like to see how your project turns out also. I see why people are rubbing things in your face but they don't seem to understand that not everybody has the means to break everything apart and put it back together to fully restore it.. I would do the same thing you are doing, I mean, if it was going on the Barrett Jackson auctions or something then I would consider it but it's a car you'll be driving not some garage queen that somebody doesn't even enjoy cause' they have it parked in a garage with a heater and a car cover. Then what is the whole point of having a car, right? Good work.. with this and your previous cars, keep it up.

wow, now I see how this thread gained another 2 pages from when I looked at it 2 days ago....alot of stupid banter
car looks good man, whether it's a resto or not, you went into it with a set agenda - so be it
quit wasting time with the ever growing negative people and comments on this board and finish'er up so we can see it completed

I think I made an assumption somewhere along the way, because half of what I see here is arguing and bitterness towards ME who is sitting here trying to bring an old car back from a state of nastiness and shame. As far as I'm concerned, this thread is dead, and there won't be another one concerning this car again. I'll share my excitement and progress somewhere else.

Youd do well for yourself in life to learn to take constructive criticism a little more gracefully, however.
Oh but wait, this thread is dead to you...... So you didnt read any of this. Never mind then!

InfernalVortex, if you READ what I posted, you'd know I NEVER claimed this to be a rotisserie restoration, I CLEARLY stated it was a small budget garage resto, and I would NEVER try to pass it off to a potential buyer as being a rotisserie. I don't play like that man. I told the kid that bought that maroon car EVERYTHING that needed attention, because it wasn't a perfect car. He still gave us more money than half the cars on this site sell for, so laugh it up
Cam, thanks for those kind words, along with everyone else on here who has some level-headedness. I don't go around these pages bashing everyone else's work on their cars, and I don't think I should have it done to me. I guess if I came in here with the attitude like this was the best resto job on the face of the earth,I might have a thing or two coming, but I didn't. I just wanted to share with the 3rd gen community the work and time being put into this car and most of you had a chip on your shoulders. And you're trying to tell ME to grow up.

Ya know, After reading most of this, im disappointed in not only some of the bashers, but all parties involved. Also, Im HIGHLY disappointed in the moderators for letting this get as far out of control as it has gotten.
We have to remember that just beacuse one of us wouldnt do it doesnt mean its wrong for another.. I cant believe we're friggin arguing in this thread essentially over what nick's Terminology was for his fixer-upper. This is so much bullshit. I've been on this forum for damn near 7 years now, and ive never seen anything like it. All of you should be ashamed, including myself.
Nick, Continue to post up photos and updates, who cares what your terminology is. Who cares what it turns out as as long as your happy.
Your other camaros have turned out beautiful so will this one.
Opinions are like *******s, everyone has one and they all stink.
WE all need to grow the Hell up. and Fast.

Besides, i highly disagree with about everything you said. I really see no harm in constructive criticism and conversation involving differing opinions. The entire "only speak up if what you have to say is praise and worship," is a rediculous (and phony) mentality, real world or otherwise.
When i post pics of my cars, i do so not only because i want praise, but because i want peoples honest opinions. I dont want blind praise if people laugh and think im an idiot when im not looking. At the end of the day, im not going to change my ways because of what they said, but i still want to know. I think youll find if you really read through the dialogue, most of the "bashers" as you say, werent even really bashing. As i mentioned before, you just dont call yourself a doctor if youre not one.
That said, i stand by my assessment that if you cant have an adult conversation with a differing opinion than someone else, than you are going to be short lived in the real world. Part of "growing up" is realizing people arent always going to like what you do/say, and having free speech, theyre going to tell you about it.
And to correct you: opinions arent like *******s, theyre like farts. Everyone does have them, they all DO stink, and anytime someone wants to air one in front of you, suck it up, because you cant stop them.
I see no problem with constructive criticism either, it's being an ******* that I have a problem with and honestly some people posting on here are being *******s. Nick is trying to have a good time and fix up a car with his dad and share it with some people on this board and a lot of people have jumped on his case and I think that it's ridiculous.

Criticism is not what I was stating as wrong, it was the bashing. Perhaps what im saying is it is HOW you criticisize. Trust me ive been here long enough to see my share, its HOW this is being done i suppose that bothers me. As I had stated previously, what he's doing i wouldnt do, but its not my car.
Constructive Criticism is just that, constructive. Beating a guy down because he used a term that you may or may not agree with is not constructive.
It appears that folks are getting to the point where they're just wanting to argue for arguements sake.. thats not cool. We're sposed to be friends here.

My dad never worked at a collision shop or a nationwide chain of automobile paint shops. He is a painting contractor, owns and runs a painting and decorating business.
Also, the IROC-Z isn't a beater by any means. When I think of the word beater I think of a 1990 Chevy Beretta, not a 1990 IROC-Z that is in really good condition.
The mileage is 96,xxx if I remember correctly. Supreme Member

WE all need to grow the Hell up. and Fast.

How about we agree to call it refurbished and knock off the talking crap to others.

And yes, while this is a public forum, there are still rules of conduct. It doesn't mean you can have free reign to say or act however you please to others.
Just because a public park is public.... it doesn't mean you can **** out in the open because you feel like it.
I belive this post has gone far enough.
